5  gallan  is  too  too  too  too  low!  Dont  even  think  of  anything  less  than  30  Gallon!  Only  if  Marine  had  fighters  like  FW  we  could  have  had  a  5  Gallon!

Ok..  however  i've  come  across  sites  that  say  5-10  gallon  are  good  provided  the  right  kinda  stuff  is  kept  in  them!!

u  can  try  out  a  nano  tank  wid  not  more  than  2  fish  like  clowns  they  would  be  perfect.  since  its  a  small  tank  water  parimeters  may  change  drastically.  key  is  that  u  should  have  the  water  changed  ever    2  weeks  about  a  15%

Nano  reefs  are  possible,  but  the  key  here  is  "reefs"...  they  are  meant  primarily  to  house  live  corals  and  inverts,  with  one  or  two  SMALL  fish.  They  are  also  much  mor  expensive  to  set  up  and  maintain  relatively  than  a  larger  marine  tank.

Just  to  give  you  an  idea,  I  recently  worked  out  the  initial  setup  cost  for  a  10  G  nano  reef,  and  it  came  out  to  around  $600  US.  I  can  put  together  a  100G  Fish  only  for  about  $250!!  Smile

Dude!  Dude!  Dude!    U  can  put  up  a  sump  along  with    a  5G  tank.  That  will  give  u  some  extra  water.  Secondly  if  u  cant  go  for  a  sump  5G  is  NOT  advisable.  As  trimax  said  the  water  parameters  can  change  overnight  and  u  would  be  left  wodnering  why  did  my  fish  die.  Besides  u  cant  use  any  decorative  items  in  there  as  that  would  reduce  the  water  quantity  as  well  as  swimming  area.  Still  if  u  go  for  a  5G  (what  size)  u  can  go  for  damsels  or  clowns.  Maybe  gobi,  but  they  wont  look  good.  U  cant  use  a  Powerhead  in  such  a  small  tank  as  it  will  force  the  fish  to  the  other  side  of  the  tank.

if  u  are  tryin  out  a  nano  reef  the  good  part  is  that  lighting  requirment  would  really  low  for  about  5  gallon  36  watts  white  with  a  touch  of  blue  about  20watts  this  would  do  excellent  job.at  same  time  fish  wouldnt  feel  comfortable  with  the  rock  structure  arround  in  a  small  tank  ,insteed  u  can  try  out  inverts  like  snail, carbs, starfish  (small  sized)  at  the  same  time  u  can  have  1or2  small  fish  which  are  reefbound  and  which  dont  move  much.
inverts  may  help  arround  to  control  the  parameters.if  possible  usage  of  a  small  skimmer, would  totally  be  blast  according  to  me  the  total  charge  shouldnt  be  exceed  not  more  than  2500  bugs

A  5G  Fish  Only  tank  is  possible  without  a  problem.  If  you  are  planning  on  keeping  a  5g  Nano  Reef  then  we  are  talking  complex  water  chemistry  but  this  is  not  possible  here  in  India.  What  I  suggest  is  put  2  -  3  lbs  of  live  rock  in  the  tank  and  let  the  tanks  Ammonia  and  Nitirite  parameters  settle  then  put  a  couple  of  Damsels,  Clowns  or  such  small  fish  and  that  should  be  ok.

as  a  matter  of  fact,  i  think  i'l  set  up  one  too...(since  my  main  4'  tank  is  taking  so  long  to  construct  Wink  ..and  re-construct...  sheesh!),  a  nano-nemo  tank  as  its  called  in  the  US...  just  an  anemone  and  a  pair  of  clowns  maybe?  hmmm...  maybe  live  rock  and  some  inverts  to  keep  the  tank  clean...  hmmm  mine  could  be  a  1'  cube,  or  maybe  a  bit  extra  on  the  length,  say  15"  x  12"  x  12"  abt  35  ltrs?

guess  i'l  need  abt  6  kgs  of  gravel  if  im  going  to  keep  an  anaemone?  eh?

lighting  could  be  an  issue,  expense  vise  or  anyother  vice  sisnce  we  dont  get  trulite  1'  tubes,  maybe  we  could  place  it  beside  a  window  for  some  indirect  lighting!  inverts,  esp  anaemores  need  good  light  i  gather...

nano  reef  is  actually  something  you  should  attempt  after  you  have  some  experience  with  maintaining  reef  tanks  -  I  would  refrain  from  doing  it  if  I'm  a  beginner  -  the  more  compact  it  is  -  the  more  complex  it  will  be!
