 Hi!  All,

I  have  a  20  G  densely  planted  tank  with  a  Boyu  Internal  Filter.  This  filter  although  keeping  the  water  clean  also  creates  a  substantial  amount  of  surface  agitation.  I  tried  to  reduce  it  by  turning  the  outlet  of  the  Filter  towards  the  wall  of  the  tank  but  not  much  improvement.  I  am  also  using  this  filter  to  diffuse  CO2  (yeast  brew).  I  have  put  the  airstone  under  the  filter  so  the  bubble  rises  up  and  gets  dissolved  in  the  water  (am  using  this  method  as  I  am  working  on  a  DIY  CO2  reactor).Because  of  the  surface  agitation  I  am  losing  out  most  of  the  CO2.  How  can  I  reduce  the  surface  agitation  using  the  same  filter?  Should  I  put  a  piece  of  foam  on  the  outlet  of  the  filter?

I  also  have  3  medium  size  Orandas.  Will  reducing  the  surface  agitation  have  any  adverse  impact  on  them  in  terms  of  reduced  supply  of  O2?

Any  suggestions  would  be  highly  welcome.

 Regards,

 Hi,
What  is  the  flowrate  of  your  internal  filter.I  think  you  are  using  a  filter  that  is  bigger  than  what  is  required  for  your  tank.

As  your  tank  is  densely  planted  i  don't    think  you  will  need  to  provide  any  extra  aeration  in  the  tank  as  the  saturation  of  oxygen  in  a  planted  tank  with  co2    is  upto  120%.

Nevertheless  he  may  need  to  use  the  filter  i  suppose.
Saugata,  what  i  did  is  as  follows.

 1)  Attached  a  Pipe  hose  to  the  outlet  of  my  filter
 2)  Blocked  the  other  end  of  the  pipe  hose
 3)  Drilled  equi  distant  holes  on  the  circumference  of  the  pipe  to  allow  the    circulation.

This  greatly  reduced  the  water  turbulence  and  also  surface  agitation.

 Rohan

PS:  This  is  NOTmy  original  idea  though    Thumb Up

 Hi!  Rohan,

Will  try  to  do  as  per  your  suggestion.  By  any  chance  will  you  be  having  a  photograph  of  the  same?
