 Hello  Gurus,

I  am  planning  of  making  a  new  angelfish  tank  next  month.  Before  I  plunge  into  making  it  ,  I  thought  I  will  take  expert  advice  from  all  of  you  who  already  are  keeping  Angelfish  now.  I  was  awed  by  a  design  I  saw  in  the  site  www.aquariumdesigngroup.com.  So  I  will  be  making  it  on  similar  lines.

Now  what  would  you  gurus  suggest  for  the  tank  size  taking  into  consideration  I  wanna  keep  8  -  10  angelfish.  Can  I  keep  other  fishes  like  tetras  or  danios  along  with  them?

As  shown  in  the  pic  shall  I  go  for  a  sand  base.  Or  is  there  a  better  alternative  I  could  opt  for?

What  would  be  a  good  filter  that  I  could  use  in  the  angelfish  tank?  Please  specify  a  good  model  so  that  I  can  ask  for  the  same  at  the  LFS.

What  kind  of  water  do  we  use  for  angelfish?  For  my  current  goldfish  tank  I  use  regular  dechlorinated  tap  water.  Can  I  use  the  same  for  angelfish?

 Hello  aroopnath,
I  am  planning  exactly  the  same  tank  after  2  months, even  i  was  amazed  to  see  such  a  wonderful  but  simple  tank.  The  first  thing  is  the  colour  which  play  the  major  role  here  as  u  can  see  everything  is  silver  and  white  except  the  woods  and  the  angles  so  basically  its  about  the  colour  and  the  placement  of  woods  .  Best  off  luck     Thumb Up     please  share  the  pictures  with  us......

Here  is  another  angel  tank  from  monsterfishkeepers.com  :

Aroo,  If  you  are  really  interested  in  Angels,  then  try  also  keeping  some  broad  leaved  plants  with  them.
Angels  prefer  rather  soft  water.  Also  make  some  hiding  places,  angels  which  are  rather  peaceful  might  become  really  agressive  during  breeding  period.
 Best  of  Luck   Thumb Up

 Hi  Saurabh,

Thanks  for  the  update.  When  you  say  soft  water  do  I  use  the  UV  treated  ozonised  can  water  that  is  supplied  by  vendors?

Will  definitely  pop  in  a  few  plants  to  the  tank  depending  on  what  I  am  able  to  procure  from  my  local  LFS.  Though  I  am  not  really  looking  to  starting  a  planted  tank  for  now,  as  I  am  still  learning  about  keeping  planted  tanks  through  this  forum  religiously.

UV  treated  water  will  not  be  soft.   Please  read  a  bit  on  water  chemistry  in  the  following  links.

The  updates  have  dwindled  to  nothing.  Nobody  seems  interested  in  providing  some  useful  information  for  my  angel  setup?

Angels  like  tall  tanks.  Go  for  a  tank  6*2*2  at  least.  It  should  have  plenty  of  tall  plants  and  driftwood  so  that  even  if  you  have  breeding  pairs  there  is  still  room  for  others  to  hide.

Angels  don't  care  about   substrate.  Its  the  plants  you  intend  to  keep  that  requires  some  substrate  which  is  not  too  fine.  Go  for  medium  sized  gravel  (3-5  mm).  If  its  moss  or  ferns  they  can  be  attached  to  the  driftwood.  then  substrate  only  provides  aesthetical  value  and  surface  area  for  bacteria  to  colonize.

For  a  tank  of  the  above  mentioned  size  go  for  an  external  canister  filter.  Use  a  spray  bar  to  diffuse  the  flow.  Go  for  a  good  brand  as  you  can   expect  good  value  for  your  money.

Do  your  research  so  that  you  can  create  a  beautiful  home  for  your  babies.

For  8  full  grown  Angel  tank,
IMHO  the  best  conditions  will  be,

 Tank  size  minimum  4x2x2  ft
 Heavily  planted.
Soft  water  with  Ph  ranging  around  6.5.  Use  RO  water  along  with  regular  dechlorinated  tap  water  to  achieve  soft  water.
Go  for  external  canister  filters  preferably  2  if  you  are  willing  to  splurge.  Use  a  Lily  pipe  to  diffuse  the  flow.

Let  us  know  your  next  set  of  queries.  Thumb Up

I  think  putting  some  Peat  Moss  in  filter  will  make  the  water  soft  for  your  Angels  and  Discus,  but  the  color  of  the  water  may  become  more  like  raw  tea.
