I havent used it but I have seen it in action It is a copy of the frighteningly expensive ADA amazonia series, these are crumbly substrates which are slightly acidic. They supposedly help soft water plants - eriocaulon, tonia etc in providing an acidic substrate which prefer these kinds oif substrates (from the black water regions) and also aids nutrient absorption. However, I have seen that the florabase substrate loses its granular shape after sometime and the manufacturer themselves reccomend replacing the substrate every year (pain in the butt if you have just scaped a tank and got it running). Moreover, the substrate is pretty light and so it is hard to keep plants with fine roots (Hemianthus Callitrichoides for example) rooted.
