Now  this  is  really  mind  blowing   Cheering
I  had  no  idea,  that  this  can  be  so  beautiful.....   Clapping

Just  curiosity  --  Can  he  be  housed  with  other  fishes..  say  an  Asian  Arowana  in  a  150  Gallons  above  tank?....

If  both  of  them  get  along  well..  that  tank  would  look  something  unimaginable..

Sorry  if  the  question  is  bad  -  my  knowledge  is  zero  in  channas...

Grown  channa  sp  assam  that  were  mearly  half  inch  in  size  to  about  4.5  inches  before  giving  it  away....  The  maurilius  I  have  are  growing  well.  Facinating  creatures.  really  suited  for  planted  tanks.  They  dont  disturb  the  plants  and  are  not  affected  by  high  CO2.  The  best  combination  any  planted  tank  enthuiast  can  ask  for

@  Preetam:  Planted  tanks?  Well  i've  never  kept  them  in  planted  tanks  but  rather  have  dumped  some  plants  into  their  tanks..   Very Happy   But  the  Sp.  Assam  as  you  said  do  really  well  in  a  planted  tank..   Thumb Up

 @  livincorpse:  Thanks  again  dude!

@  Subhankar:  Oops  sorry  I  missed  your  query..  Firstly  thanks  for  your  appreciative  words..   Thumb Up   I  personally  don't  think  they  can  be  housed  together,  in  fact  the  C.barca  is  much  better  off  if  kept  and  grown  singly..   Smile

 Hi,Tabby

I  think  your  barca  is  a  female!

i  got  a  female  at  home,too..........my  male  died  during  the  move  from  one  flat  to  another, because  of  a  fungal  infection!

It  took  one  day  until  he  was  finished......
In  the  evening  he  had  just  one  small  spot  of  fungus!
The  next  morning  the  fish  was  completly  covered  with  fungus, too  late  for  a  treatment!

i  have  never  seen  a  fungus  growing  so  fast......

For  my  opinion  it  is  quite  easy  to  sex  them:
The  males  have  a  higher  Dorsal  fin, beginning  with  the  wirst  fin  ray........it  is  going  straight  up  to  the  same  level  as  the  second  and  third  one.....

Females  have  finrays  like  a  step.......first  one  is  lower, second  one  a  little  bit  higher....and  so  on!

what  is  the  temperature  in  your  tank  at  the  moment?

 How  often  do  you  feed?

We  have  examined  a  Ch.  aurantimaculata  (closest  species  to  barca),  because  of  it  sexual  organs  .......
The  fish  was  very  ft,feeded  once  a  day..........
 And  what  should  I  say?
 we  find  no  sexual  organs!

We  think, because  it  is  a  subtropical  species  ,with  some  kind  of  hibernation  during  the  cloder  season  ,that  too  much  food   has  an  negativ  effect  on  the  development  of  the  sexualtity  of  the  fish......

I  feed  my  barca  once  a  week  ...and  it  still  looks  to  fat  for  me.......

I  hink  in  nature  they  do  not  get  as  much  food...and  in  captivity  the  become  fat  and  lazy!

 That  is  just  my  opinion........

 What  do  you  think?

 Regards
 Pascal
