 Hi,

I  purchased  a  blue  acara  yesterday  (Saturday  3-Oct).  It  has  not  eaten  anything  till  now  (Sunday  9:45  pm).  I  have  tried  the  following:

 Food                                                Result
 ----------                                            -----------
 1st  timeTetraBits                  Spat  out
 Subsequent  "                           Ignoring

Cichlid  Gold                              Not  even  looking  at  it
1st  Frozen  prawn                  Eagerly  grabbed  it,  spat  out
 Subsequent  "                           Ignoring
 Minced  chicken                       Ignoring

Water  is  fine.  Fins  are  not  clamped,  free  swimming  even  though  in  bare  bottom  quarantine  tank.  Looking  for  food.
LFS  gives  live  worms  and  raw  meat!  I  do  not  plan  to  give  live  worms  from  LFS.  So  any  suggestions  please?

If  it  is  NOT    malnourished  you  can  try  starving  it  for  a  few  days  and  then  trying  to  feed  it.  How  big  is  it?  Give  it  some  time  to  settle  in  th  tank.

 Hi,

Thanks  for  replying.  It  is  2.5  inches,  not  at  all  malnourished.  Will  try  this.  Do  you  (or  anyone  else)  know  if  any  of  these  widely  available  freeze  dried  bloodworms  with  LFS  any  good?  Or  shall  I  try  to  get  only  reputed  ones  like  Sera,  Hikari  bio  pure  etc?  Will  breeding  artemia  help?  As  of  now,  I  think  it  is  looking  for  live  food  (what  it  does  in  nature  too).

 Hi  Avi
Any  particular  reason  you  are  avoiding  live  worms?IMHO  there  is  too  much  hype  of  live  worms  killing  fish.  If  not  maintained  well  they  WILL,but  they  are  actually  good  food  if  you  can  maintain  them  well.  (read  storing  in  cool  conditions  with  regular  WCs)

 Hi  Shubhankar,

My  only  concern  is  I  do  not  know  where  the  LFS  collect  them  from!

 day  5  update:

He  has  still  not  eaten  anything.Color  has  faded  a  little.  Free  swimming,  fins  are  not  clamped.  But  now  searching  for  food.  Not  touching  the  above  mentioned  food.  So  what  next  from  your  experience?  Shall  I  give  in  to  tubifex?  But  it  is  almost  impossible  for  me  to  go  and  get  tubifex  on  a  regular  basis.

the  behavior  of  the  fish  sounds  as  if  it  doesn't  know  that  the  above  is  food

try  feeding  it  live  stuff  like
 earthworms,
 live  ghost  shrimps
live  fish(but  quarantined  and  gut  loaded  at  your  place  or  wild  caught  [give  a  salt  bath  for  parasites])

or  you  can  try  the  teaching  fish  method,  by  adding  dither  fish  which  are  good  eaters,  like  convicts,  or  big  barbs,  etc
the  fish  might  look  at  the  other  fish  eating  the  above  food  and  will  learn  to  eat  the  food  out  of  competition.

Tried  introducing  other  fish.  Other  fish  ate  most  of  the  food.  This  did  not.  Put  a  moth  after  removing  wings,  ignored  it  Yesterday  fed  "cichlid  gold  syrup"  with  a  syringe,   though  may  not  have  been  proper  as  much  of  it  went  out  of  the  gills.

Next  step  -  live  ghost  shrimp!

How  can  I  know  if  some  internal  parasites  are  there?  Or  shall  I   apply  medication  for  the  same?

Problem  solved  with  freeze  dried  bloodworms  of  a  particular  brand!!!  Will  not  eat  anything  else  though!  Thanks  for  all  your  replies.
