 Hi  all,

Does  anyone  have  experience  keeping  Pseudotropheus  sp.  "Acei"  (Ngara)?     Any  specific  characteristics?   Are  they  easily  available?

I  got  about  7  of  them  yesterday,  hence  the  query.

 Cheers,
 Jai

No  response,  so  I  presume  it  is  not  common  species  available  in  the  market.

 Regards,
 Jai

It  is  one  of  the  more  common  Pseudotropheus  in  the  US.  Care  is  the  same  as  for  the  other  commonly  available  species,  typical  mbuna.

Hi  Jayachand  -  Its  available  in  India  too,  just  a  matter  of  time  I  guess.  I  have  got  a  pair  of  them  who  are  staying  with  me  for  last  two  months  and  got  the  female  holding  in  a  month  period  or  so.

When  you  get  them  from  LFS  it  may  look  pretty  shabby(that  was  my  case   Surprised  )  ash  black  or  so  but  lateron  as  they  stay  in  my  malawi  community  they  started  showing  colors  of  Deep  Purple  blue  with  pure  black  dorsal  fin  and  a  distinct  white  tail  for  male  and  females  as  u  know  with  a  bit  less  colored.

As  far  as  care  is  concerned,  they  seem  to  need  no  extra  care  as  they  are  quite  hardy  and  stable  with  foods  of  herbs  type;  I  feed  them  Cichlid  Excel  and  just  try  to  avoid  giving  Protein  based  diet  (My  ones  are  greedy  and  try  to  snatch  Cichlid  Gold  from  Haps  Very Happy  ).

As  far  as  Mbunas  are  concerned,  one  may  think  of  the  aggression;  but  they  are  moderate  and  a  non  dominant  ones.

For  Breeding  its  Mouthbrooder  as  like  all  others  and  my  female  holds  just  after  1  month  I  get  from  LFS.

 Stilkwood,

Welcome  into  the  forum  and  thanks  for  the  details.

I  am  feeding  them  a  mix  of  Hikari  Excel  and  Bio  Gold,  once  I  move  them  to  a  separate  tank  then  I  will  be  able  to  feed  Excel  only.

 Cheers,
 Jai

Just  a  trick  I  applied  maybe  you  can  try  out,  I  normally  feed  then  excel,  once  thats  completed,  I  used  to  drop  the  Gold  pellets(sinking)  in  the  territory  where  Acei's  are  not  present  in  that  way  I  keep  them  off  from  the  Protein  based  foods.

 Rgds,

aggression  is  shown  specially  during  feeding  time..

Color  is  dark  blue  with  tail  white...

I  have  read  that  there  are  2  varieties,  one  with  white  tail  and  another  with  yellowish  tail.     I  get  a  sense  that  the  ones  with  me  have  a  tinge  of  yellow  color  in  the  tail.

 Cheers,
 Jai
