 Hi,
I  just  bought  a  147L  molded  tank.  I  need  to  cycle  it  before  adding  the  fish.  I  heard  people  using  BioSpira  which  is  bacteria  in  a  pouch  to  speedup  the  cycle  (to  about  1  to  2  days).  Have  any  one  used  it?  and  is  it  available  in  India.  People  have  mentioned  about  shooting  up  of  Nitite  when  using  it,  but  can  be  managed  by  checking  the  water  regularly  till  it  stabilized.
My  second  question  is  which  is  the  most  common  and  user  friendly  test  kit  which  is  available  in  India?  (for  Ammonia  and  Nitrite)

 regards,
      Harish

You  can  get  good  test  kits  from  companies  like  "Prodac"  or  Tetra  to  cjeck  water  qual;ity.  As  for  Biospira,  I  am  afraid  I  have  no  clue.  You  could  however  use  the  "good"  bacteria  from  a  set   fiter  in  another  established  tank  if  you  have  one  or  know  someone  who  has  one. You  need  to  be  careful  that  the  source  is  not  contaminated  by  any  disiease.  I  am  not  an  expert  so  you  could  wait  for  responses  from  the  more  experinced  aquarists  on  this  forum.Smile

 Hi  Harish,

I  have  searched  for  similar  stuff  like  bio  spira,  prime  or  safe  start  and  posted  my  requirements  on  this  forum.  Unfortunately  till  now  nobody  has  been  able  to  supply  it.

Test  kits  are  very  common  and  easily  available.  Tetra,  Sera  and  API  have  some  good  kits.  I  have  read  in  many  forums  that  Red  Sea  gives  inaccurate  results.  I  do  not  know  this  first  hand  though.

Thanks  guys,  I  have  an  existing  tank  which  is  running  for  more  than  a  month.  What  is  used  from  the  old  tank  for  the  source  for  good  bacteria?

 thanks,
   Harish

Use  running  filter  of  old  tank  to  a  new  one  without  washing/drying  media.  Half  a  day  running  should  help  bacteria  colony  stabilized  in  new  setup.

 Hi  Harish,

Some  good  reputed  test  kits  are  from  API,  Tetra,  Sera,  Red  Sea,  Seachem  and  sailfert.
