Thanks  for  your  concern,
But  don’t  worry;  I  am  more  environmentally  aware  than  any  one  around,
That’s  why  I  got  the  Young  Naturalist  of  the  Year  award!  Very Happy

All  are  endemic  species  from  nearby  areas,  only  the  population  out  there  is  low!

All  Animals  in  my  tank  have  been  collected  myself  by  snorkeling  for  weeks,  except  for  few  imported  fishes  like  flame  angel  and  fire  gobies,  all  other  stuff  is  endemic.

I  am  monitoring  the  populations  for  last  8  years,  this  area  is  protected  and  only  few  people  are  allowed.
Thank  God,  or  else  all  would  have  all  been  chiseled  out  by  greedy  collectors/dealers.

Me  and  few  of  my  trusted  friends  cleaned  up  that  area  of  plastic  and  scrapped  fishing  nets  which  turned  out  to  570kgs….
just  imagine  the  kind  of  damage  done!  Surprised

Though  very  Late,  I  sincerely  appreciate  your  efforts  Lycodon!   Thumb Up   Thumb Up  .  Exact  location  in  India  please?

One  of  the  best  maintained  reef   i  have  come  across  in  India  .
i  would  like  you  to  share  the  other  Tech   details  like
Skimmer  ,  chiller  ,  DSB,  wavemakers   and  sump
it  would  be  great  if  you  can  post  in  some  pictures  if  your  sump  cycle  as  well  .
I  would  like  to  know  the  regular  regime  that  you  follow  to  maintain  such  a  healthy  setup  ...??

 Hey............thanks  for  your  compliments!

OK,  here  is  a  short  overview...
I  have  no  skimmer,  i  overcome  this  by  20%  weekly  water  change.
I  just  updated  my  220lt  chillers  to  a  650lt  hailea  chiller  (amazing  addition)
I  have  a  4  to  5  inch  DSb  of  normal  beach  sand  mixed  with  hand  crushed  coral  sand,  full  of  pods,  worms,  brittle  starts,  peanut  worms,  sand  crabs,  many  pistol  shrimps  (tiny  variety),  olive  snails,  abalones,  etc.
other  scavengers  are  tiny  hermits,  bristle  worms,  1  blenny  and  many  limpets,  chitons,  nerita  snail,  top  snails,  turban  snails,  nassarius  snail,  etc.
i  have  2  clowns  and  three  fire  dart  fishes(  these  guys  have  been  in  the  tank  for  a  very  long  time...touch  wood!)
4  giant  tube  worms(very  old  guys)

others  are  all  mix  corals...........dominated  mainly  by  zoanthids  of  various  kinds!

i  feed  frozen  phytoplankton  and  zooplankton............minced  fish,  pellets(  lots  of  LPS  love  pellets),  powder  invert  food,  fish  eggs,  mashed  squids, hard  boiled  egg  yolk.....  the  list  goes  on.............as  i  keep  giving  them  varied  diet............
i  feed  based  on  how  hungry  the  tank  looks,  could  be  daily  or  once  a  week!
i  add  Salifert  all  in  one  trace  elements  with  top  ups!
sometimes  i  also  dose  raw  calcium,  iodine,  mag,  etc

 not  much  maintenance:
clean  front  glass  twice  a  week,  weekly  water  change(again  based  on  how  bad  the  water  gets)

Ph  is  checked  with  a  digital  meter  thrice  a  week,  salinity  is  checked  with  two  floating  hydrometers..
other  test  kits  have  been  laying  for  more  than  4  yrs...never  used!
if  you  know  your  inhabitnats  well,  you'll  know  when  the  parameters  are  wrong...

Also,  unless  you  have  done  something  new,  or  added  something,  an  established  tank  seldom  fluctuates  to  problematic  level!

i  have  a  basic  sump,  with  sand  in  the  first  baffle  (works  as  a  refugium  too,  as  lots  of  amphipods  live  here)
all  pumps  are  normally  available  Chinese  fountain  pumps...

1  T5  blue  light  witha  single  16K  MH.........

my  stuff  is  not  very  fancy,  but  its  good  as  long  as  it  works  great!  Rock On

Well  aquascaped  tank.  Is  there  any  particular  reason  you  do  not  use  a  skimmer?
You  have  also  mentioned  that  you  have  chaetomorpha  amongst  other  macro  algae  in  page  one  of  your  thread.  Is  this  available  locally  as  I  am  unable  to  source  it  in  Chennai.

 Hey  thanks  for  your  compliments!

The  hermits  dont  bother  the  zoa  much,  only  sometimes  the  walk  over  them  to  clean  up.........but  thats  fine  as  they  are  really  tiny,  and  as  they  grow  i  put  them  back  in  the  sea  where  they  came  from!

I  have  not  put  a  skimmer,  mainly  because  i  religiously  change  20%  or  more  water  weekly!
chaetomorpha  algae  is  quite  common  on  local  semi  sandy  shores,  its  quite  hardy  too...also  is  good  food  for  the  pods!

The  softies  are  doing  really  well,  they  have  been  gifted  to  my  local  reefer  friends!

I  will  see  if  i  can  find  some  cheato  soon,  its  easy  to  find  here,  but  its  only  about  going  to  the  sea........

I'll  let  you  know  when   i  collect  some!

Thats  a  nice  tank,  looks  more  matured  and  full.  I  would  love  to  have  that  green  zoas  and  the  green  with  purple  center.  Its  really  amazing  that  you  were  able  to  do  this  without  a  skimmer.  I  like  your  coco  worm.  Also  I  red  in  one  of  your  post  that  you  have  an  elegance  coral.  Can  you  post  a  pic  of  it.  I  was  never  able  to  keep  one,  for  some  reason  they  always  died.  Nice  setup  though.
