Hi,  try  reading  this.  It  is  well  explained  here.

 http://www.firsttankguide.net/

If  budget  is  not  an  issue,  I  suggest  get  a  molded  tank  and  have  an  external  filter  or  overhead  filter  if  it  comes  with  the  tank.  It  won't  be  that  expensive  but  will  look  nice,  compact  and  easy  to  maintain.

 regards,
    Harish

Please  check  these  articles  on  IAH  itself.
 Scroll  down  to  relevant  articles.

 http://indianaquariumhobbyist.com/community/modules.php?name=News&file=topics&topic=2

Marine  aquariums  are   aquarium  for  sea  water  aquatic  animals,  where  as  tropical  aquariums  are  for  freshwater  aquatic  animals.
There  is  another  category  in  between  and  they  are  known  as  Brackish  water  aquarium  ,  where  the  salinty  levels  are  between  marine  &  fresh  water.

@Bitto2007nk:  Actually,  being  a  foreigner,  I  can  assure  you  that  most  of  the  parameters  are  the  same.  Even  though  we  are  in  Europe,  most  of  us  keep  the  same  fishes  as  you  do  here  and  as  well  a  lot  of  Indian  fishes.  For  example  there  is  a  large  Channa  breeder  community  in  Europe  who  do  a  good  work  figuring  out  ways  how  to  breed  and  maintain  the  indian  variants.

The  only  difference  when  keeping  European  fish  is  maintaining  a  low  temperature,  so  you  need  a  cooler,  but  I  guess  the  same  applies  if  you  want  to  keep  fishes  from  Himalayas  in  Chennai  :-)

 Regards

 Hi
There  is  no  difference.  What  ever  says  in  that  site  is  applicable  to  us.  Like  explained  before,  only  difference  is  temperature.  In  Europe  you  might  need  a  heater  to  maintain  water  temperature  and  in  India  we  have  to  worry  about  temperature  going  too  high.  Your  location  is  not  updated  so  I  don't  know  where  you  are  situated.
You  worry  only  about  fresh  water  aquarium  as  a  beginner  since  marine  aquarium  is  difficult  to  setup  and  maintain.  Frankly  I  would  give  AMC  to  some  one  to  maintain  a  marine  tank.   Smile  Marine  fishes  are  more  colorful  and  attractive  than  freshwater,  may  be  because  normally  we  won't  see  marine  fish  tanks  since  it  is  mostly  owned  and/or  maintained  by  experienced  people.   Smile

 Hi,

To  start  with  just  keep  hardy  fish  till  the  time  the  tank  is  stable.  Also  do  not  put  too  much  fish  in  the  begining.  Start  with  few  and  go  at  slow  pace.  It's  difficult  to  resist  your  temptation  to  put  as  many  fish  as  the  tank  can  hold.  But  you  should  go  about  it  slowly.  You  enjoy  and  learn  more  in  setting  the  tank  slowly.

 thanks

Livebearers  are  considered  to  be  good  cyclers  as  well  as  beginner's  choice  fishes.
To  start  with  you  can  introduce  a  pair  of  Guppy  or  Black  Molly.

After  few  weeks  once  tank  is  cylced,  you  can  gradually  add  more  of  such  small  fishes.  (Swordtails,  Platies,  Tetras  etc.)
For  such  fishes,  One  Fish  per  Gallon  rule  holds  true  so  you  can  stock  upto  16-18  such  beautiful  little  ones.

Don't  go  for  Goldfishes,  Tiger  Sharks  (Catfish)  or  Suckers  (Pleco)  as  these  fellas  will  grow  really  big  for  your  tank  size.

 Hi,
Dont  know  about  West  delhi  but  there  is  a  decent  shop  in  Chldrens'  Park  (India  Gate),  some  in  Daryaganj  and  Fish  Point  (Sarojini  Nagar).  Alternately,  you  can  try  indiapetstore.com  (by  Nirav).  His  IAH  id  is  Nash  and  he  will  be  able  to  help  you  out/upply  many  things.

In  Delhi  the  most  economical  aquarium  products  can  be  purchased  from  Anand  Parvat  in  Karolbagh.  There  are  a  number  of  shops  there  in  the  same  street  so  you  can  find  out  the  difference.  The  most  economical  one  is  Laxmi  Aquarium.
