How  long  have  you  had  them  "different  goniopras"?  What  do  you  feed  them,  elegance  and  goni  are  some  of  the  hardest  corals  to  keep,  as  far  as  I  am  considered.  I  have  not  even  considered  buying  goniopora,  cause  I  know  that  am   going  to  kill  them.

 Hi...
I  had  also  read  quite  a  lot  of  this  stuff  that  gonios,  etc  are  really  difficult  to  keep!
 But  see  i.........
I  had  collected  them  from  the  wild,  while  doing  so,  i  tested  the  Ph,  temp  and  other  parameters  from  that  place.........
I  also  saw  their  placement  and  depth  requirement...
And  i  just  tried  to  mimic  those  setting  in  my  tank!

Trust  me,  the  place  where  i  found  goinios  were  really  very  very  polluted  areas  and  no  one  would  ever  expect  to  find  any  life  out  there!
I  saw  more  than  25  to  30  people  taking  a  dump  on  the  rocks  near  the  gonio  habitat,  you  can  imagine  the  kind  on  nutrients  available  out  there...and  the  levels  of  nutrients  are  to  toxic  in  a  closed  system  and  so  these  corals  are  difficult  to  keep  as  they  often  starve....
so  if  you  mange  to  target  feed  them  they  should  be  fine...........because  i  find  them  quite  hardy  otherwise!
Most  of  the  reefers  try  and  maintain  very  clean  and  sterile  environment  in  the  tank  and  that's  exactly  opposite  to  what  the  gonios  or  elegant  corals  need!

i  am  not  joking  but  my  goinio  actually  love  feeding  on  chopped  freshwater  tubifex  worms  which  are  full  of  Sh*t  in  their  guts!
i  had  one  friend  who  used  to  fail  in  keeping  gonios  for  long,  he  tried  tubifex  and  it  worked!

My  elegant  mainly  feeds  on  large  chunks  of  fish  and  prawns  weekly...  Cheering

what  colour  is  your  goni?  red  or  green.  Also  where  have  you  placed  it  and  whats  the  flow?  I  might  get  me  some  goni  and  try  it  out.  I  am  off  for  the  next  few  days  and  think  this  will  be  good  time  to  try  it.  Also  how  often  do  you  feed  it?

As  of  now  i  have  only  one  imported  one  called  Jewel  Coral....green  with  reddish  tips
All  my  older  ones  are  with  friends  and  some  are  back  in  the  sea  where  they  came  from!

They  love  to  be  placed  in  the  sand,  nothing  should  be  touching  them  like  rocks,  decor  or  other  corals.....if  anything  touches  them,  that  part  will  die  off!

They  love  nice  6500K  light  as  they  are  found  in  knee  deep  waters  with  no  shade  on  open  sandy  flats.
They  need  ¬†good  turbulent  flow  but  not  aimed  at  them  directly.....  this  should  be  like  their  tentacles  should  be  fully  swaying  in  the  current.

During  feeding  you  should  turn  of  the  pumps  and  drop  food  on  the  polyps....u  will  notice  the  tentacles  react  to  foods  like  fish  eggs,  worms,  invert  foods  and  also  micro  pellets...

They  hate  when  any  food  thieves  like  hermits  or  shrimps  crawl  on  them,  they  also  hate  any  clowns  bothering  them  unless  its  a  very  large  colony........as  the  clowns  will  restrict  polyp  extension  due  to  constant  disturbances.

The  frags  grow  well  on  live  rock  and  hate  base  rocks!

while  buying  see  if  all  polyps  are  extended  and  no  signs  of  tissue  rescission  is  visible,  because  nuisance  algae  will  take  over  the  exposed  skeleton  and  kill  most  of  the  colony!

 Give  it  a  try...........

When  you  buy  these  make  sure  that  the  dealer  makes  the  entire  colony  to  close  up  fully  into  the  skeleton  &  only  then  to  pack  it.  Doing  this  will  ensure  two  things,  one  that  there  will  be  less  scraping  of  the  corals  tissue  &  two  you  get  to  see  if  there  are  any  dead  spots  or  boring  sponges  worm  holes  etc  on  your  coral.  Once  you  get  it  to  your  home  /  office  make  sure  you  give  it  an  iodine  dip  (Reef  dip  )  to  safeguard  against  bacterial  infection  on  scraped  tissue.  If  there  are  any  sponges  on  the  underside  of  the  coral  piece  then  do  remove  them  as  fully  as  possible  to  avoid  decomposition  of  the  sponge  &  risk  of  ammonia  buildup.  Boring  sponges  &  worms  if  left  as  it  is  on  the  coral  will  prove  to  be  detrimental  to  the  longetivity  of  the  coral.  If  you  are  able  to  hatch  brineshrimp  then  it  should  be  the  feed  of  choice  for  your  gonios.  Rinse  the  newly  hatched  brine  shrimp  under  fresh  water  for  a  minute  in  the  collection  net  itself.  If  you  have  a  sump  then  probably  your  skimmer  is  in  it  too.  If  so  switch  off  the  return  pump  from  your  sump.  As  lycodon  says  target  feeding  is  the  method  to  feed  the  gonios.  Brine  shrimp  will  survive  in  the  aquarium  untill  they  are  eaten  or  are  removed  by  filteration.

I  saw  a  nice  neon  green  goni  in  the  lfs,  but  had  to  pass  it  cause  I  saw  a  seasons  greeting  monti  and  went  for  it.  I  like  encrusting  monits.  I  have  a  bunch  of  them  and  love  everyone  of  the.  Best  one  is  super  man  monti.  I  also  found  a  mistery  wrasse  for  less  than  1/2  the  price.
