Put  my  Glypto  in  the  tank.  Will  drop  some  blood  worms  in  the  evening  and  see.  Right  now  he's  swimming  around  and  freaking  out  the  Erethistids  in  the  tank.  Yours  in  the  tank  yet????

Type  locality  for  Glyptothorax  davissinghi  is  Nilambur:  http://acsi.acnatsci.org/base/image_show_wrapper.html?target=134959

Wait  for  HH  to  ID  before  being  sure.

 Shekkalmudi  Road.

Krishna,  Jayaseelan  and  Varun  in  the  water.  Balaji  with  the  catch.  Picture  courtesy,  Madhu.

Rest  of  the  pictures  can  be  found  here.
 http://picasaweb.google.com/discoverwild/ValparaiCollectionTrip02#

The  disheartening  thing  for  this  trip  was  that  we  could  not  find  any  loaches  in  over  10  streams  that  we  went  to.  Possible  reason  might  be  pesticide  poisoning.  We  found  a  high  quantity  of  pesticide  being  administered  to  tea  plants  in  estates.  A  single  rain  after  the  spraying  is  enough  to  bring  down  enough  pesticide  into  the  streams  running  through  these  estates.  In  a  couple  of  estates,  we  found  entire  portions  of  tea  plantations  bathed  in  white  powder.

 Hi  Suraj,

It  is  really  very  sad  to  know  that  these  streams  have  hardly  any  loaches  ..  "Pudhuthottam  Estate"  is  one  such  place  where  it  has  always  been  recorded  for  Hill  Stream  Loaches...  may  be  there  are  some  locahes  upstream  where  the  plantation  are  not  there  ?

 Anyway  thanks  for  the  Pictures.

 Regards

 Sujoy

The  Pudhuthottam  Estate  is  itself  a  defunct  estate  in  private  hands,  Sujoy.  You  can  find  coffee  plants  over  15'  tall.  It  has  been  in  the  news  for  all  the  wrong  reasons  and  forest  officials  keep  a  keen  lookout  for  any  wrong  doing.

Will  be  trying  again  after  a  month  or  so.

Thats  from  where  we  thought  it  was  davissinghii,  Beta.   Initially  we  thought  it  could  be  houseii.   Even  Rahul  said  it  was  too  south  bound  from  the  actual  davissinghii  type  locality.   But  are  you  are  gonna  believe,  if  i  say,  we  found  P.arulius  from  there.   Very Happy
