 Hi  all,
Will  it  be  possilbe  to  get  the  formula  to  make  marine  salt  mix  at  home.
I  know  of  a  commercial  dealer  in  delhi  who  makes  his  own  sea  salt  from  chemicals  brought  form  th  local  market    and  has  managed  to  keep  fish  and  inverts  for  a  long  time.
Does  not  want  to  share  it  with  anyone  though...commercials  reasons.
Awaiting  your  opinons  and  response  on  this.

There  are  formulae  for  sea  salt  mixes  freely  available  online.  Not  worth  the  effort  IMO.

 Hi,
We  also  have  a  few  dealers  in  Kolkata  who  make  their  own  salt  from  the  formula  that  they  have  obtained  from  such  books  with  good  success  i  must  say.
Can  give  it  a  shot  to  see  if  it  works..some  times  good  commercial  salt  mixes  are  difficult  tom  find  in  Kolkata.  What  one  usually  gets  is  the  low  grade  mix  from  Bangkok.
Will  be  more  than  glad  if  someone  posts  some  information  on  how  to  go  about  it.
 Thanks,
 Cheers

 A  few  recipe's  here:

 http://www.stanford.edu/~erlee/seament/smp_swat.htm

A  Japanese  website  with  the  formula  they  used  for  raising  fish  and  inverts...  While  the  chemical  names  are  in  english,  the  text  explaining  how  to  actually  prepare  the  mix  is  in  Japanese  Very Happy

 Hi  Rahul,
Thank  you  for  the  links  for  the  websites.
It  seems  pretty  simple  to  make  the  salt  mix  (so  suggests  the  first  link)as  long  as  you  get  all  the  right  chemicals  to  do  so.  (the  second  link  seemd  to  be  inactive)
I  also  need  to  know  if  someone  else  on  the  forum  has  been  using  self  prepared  salts  for  their  tanks.
 Thanks,
 DF

Hmm,  the  second  link  seems  to  be  down...  here's  google's  cache  of  the  page:

 Thanks  yaar,
Will  try  to  get  that  translated  from  someone  who  can  read  japanese.
Will  also  try  to  keep  a  couple  of  fish    maybe  a  clown  and  a  damsel  to  see  if  the  formula  is  ok.
Should  be  useful  to  all  Mariners.  For  people  who  have  large  tanks  and  for  ones  who  want  to  save  money  on  salt  (provided  trace  elements  can  be    regularly  added)
 Thank  you  once  again.

 Hi  All,
Thanks  for  all  the  effort  to  DF  and  Retro.
I  will  be  giving  this  a  shot  once  to  see  how  it  goes.
Ideas  and  suggestions  from  anyone  who  has  done  this  before  are  most  welcome.
 Thanks  again.

 Hi  Guys,
Just  go  to  google  and  translate  the  japanese  url  to  make  things  simpler.
The  english  will    not  be  accurate  as  it  translates  as  it  is  but  once  an  make  out  how  to  go  about  it.
 Bye  and  good  luck,
 df
