I  bought  3  female  endlers  southern  india  aquaculture  recently.  They  delivered  about  50  fries  overall  and  most  of  them  were  eaten  by  my  zebras.  Now  I  have  taken  out  the  remaining  25  odd  fries  and  keeping  them  in  a  seperate  tank  and  I  am  planning  to  keep  them  alive.

I  read  in  many  sites  that  brine  shrimps  are  the  ideal  food  for  fries,  but  I  am  not  getting  it  anywhere  in  Chennai.  Is  it  ok  to  feed  them  with  crushed  flakes  and  dry  worms?  please  let  me  know.

Also,  two  of  my  adult  female  endlers  died  few  days  afer  delivering  the  fries.  I  noticed  that  their  tail  almost  vanished  a  couple  of  days  after  delivery  and  they  were  unable  to  swim  properly.  Is  that  a  disease?  or  problem  with  the  water?

 Thank  you  all!
 Preethy

 Hi  Preethy,

The  tanks  mates  of  those  Female  Endlers?  With  the  post-partum  weakness,  their  fins  would  have  been  nipped  by  some  nippy  tankmates  -  my  doubt.

 Regards

The  tank  mates  are  no  other  than  a  couple  of  zebras.  They  dont  bully  my  endlers.

The  tails  were  actually  shrunk  and  didnt  disappear.  It  eventually  became  too  small  for  the  fish  to  balance  its  swim.  I  think  it  was  some  kind  of  disease.  not  sure  though.

I  dont  want  that  disease  to  affect  my  fries.

Preethy,  I  did  happen  to  see  that  batch,  but  not  the  Endler's  females.  There  were  a  few  Gambusia  (probably  feeders)  as  well  in  that.

 ^

When  I  bought  them,  there  were  only  3  females  in  that  tank  and  no  other  fishes.  All  the  males  were  sold.  I  bought  the  females  because  they  were  loaded  and  ready  to  lay  fries.  In  fact  one  of  them  gave  birth  while  I  am  carrying  it  in  the  packer  from  the  store  to  home.

 BTW.

When  are  you  getting  your  next  multies  shippment?   Very Happy

If  I  post  the  picture  of  the  only  surviving  feamle  adult,  would  someone  be  able  to  tell  me  whether  its  a  mosquito  fish  or  endler?

I  hope  they  are  Endlers.  I  beleive  in  Fishkeepers  word.

Anyways,  I  am  going  to  feed  their  fries  and  let  them  grow.  If  they  do  not  show-up  any  colors  then  I  will  feed  them  to  my  future  cichlids.

I  am  buying  a  new  tank  BTW.

 LFS  aren't  FishKeepers.  ;  )

Gambusia  -  Poecilia  hybrid  should  be  colourful  too,  just  for  the  possible  shape  of  the  rotund  tail.

One  thing  that  consoles  me  is  that  even  if  they  are  Gambusia  and  not  endlers,  they  were  kept  with  male  endlers  so  I  will  end  up  having  Endler-Gambusia  hybrids,  which  will  be  still  good.

But  I  always  wanted  to  keep  pure  endlers   Crying or Very sad
