Aah  thanks  Madhu  ,  always  interested  in  fishkeeping  info  !

Are  there  any  Puntius  that  have  eluded  you  so  far  ?

I  think  you  had  some  P.punctatus  with  red  dorsal  fins  ?
a  few  years  ago  we  used  to  get  some  Ticto  type  fish  that  had  yellowish  fins  ,  the  dorsal  fin  was  speckled  [black  dots]  ,  they  were  similar  to  Punctatus  in  that  the  posterior  body  spot  was  located  at  the  caudal  penduncle  ,instead  of  above  the  anal  fin  aka  typical  Ticto  !
Do  you  know  this  fish  ,  they  used  to  come  mixed  in  with  Assimilis  !  Thumb Up

 Hi  Andy,
I  think  what  you  are  talking  about  is  the  ticto.   I  had  a  few  collected  from  2-3  different  type  localities  and  all  of  them  did  have  rows  of  spots  on  the  dorsal  and  the  black  blotch  was  very  much  on  the  peduncle  for  all  the  variants  while  one  population  from  Gobi  had  very  prominent  orange  pelvics.
The  closest  one  to  a  ticto  i've  come  across  is  the  Puntius  pookodensis  from  Pookod  lake  in  Kerala  which  lacks  the  rows  of  spots  on  the  dorsal  and  the  black  blotch  was  pretty  ahead  of  the  peduncle.
And  for  elusive  fish,  i  have  a  whole  list.   5  years  back  we  were  on  a  trip  to  collect  P.denisonii,  after  3  days  of  running  mad  we  collected  just  one  to  photograh.   This  feb  when  me  and  Nayak  were  on  a  trip  to  North  Kanara,  P.narayanii  from  the  Sharavathy  basin  gave  us  a  royal  screw,  provided  Rahul  gave  us  the  exact  type  locality  where  he  collected  them  6  months  back.     Sad

 Nice  pics,  madhu.  Smile

I  always  like  to  read  about  Indian  natives.

In  some  literature  you  can  read  about  Botia  striata  that  should  occur  in  the  Western  Ghats,  but  i  never  read
about  them  in  the  collection  topics.
Did  you  see  them  in  the  wild?

 Thanks  mate!

About  B.striata,  I  too  have  come  across  stuff  about  their  type  localities  being  the  Tunga  basin  and  lower  Maharashtra.   But  in  a  trip  where  Nayak  &  myself  had  to  follow  the  Tunga  river  for  50  odd  Kms,  didn't  find  any.
