Message:  Very  Happy  to  know  that  we  have  a  site  for  aquarium  hobbyist  in  our  country.  I  take  this  opportunity  to  congratulate  the  persons  responsible  for  this.  Â Also  Best  wishes  to  all  members  and  office  bearers  to  take  the  task  of  protecting  the  valuable  biodiversity  we  have  in  our  country.  ALL  THE  VERY  BEST  AGAIN.

For  your  information,  Dr  Venketraman  speciallises  in  corals  &  has  written  a  book  "Hand  Book  on  Hard  Corals  of  India".  It's  a  hard  bound  book,  about    350  pages,  with  lots  &  lots  of  colour  pictures  of  corals  found  in  Indian  waters.  Price  is  Rs  2300/-,  available  from  ZSI,  Calcutta.

Dr  Venketraman  has  been  kind  enough  to  give  use  a  book  on  "Natural  Aquatic  Ecosystem  of  India  -  Thematic  Biodiversity  Strategy  &  Action  Plan",  also  written  by  him,  &  many  posters  of  marine  fishes  /  corals  /  etc  for  display  at  Aquatika  2004.

ZSI  Chennai  also  has  a  wonderful  marine  aquarium,  with  about  20  large  tanks,  each  one  about  4  ft.  It's  not  yet  open  to  public.

 Ravi  one  suggestion  -

Could  you  get  Dr.  Venkataraman  and  Dr.  KCJ  to  make  their  books  available  through  IAH  for  members  ?

Dr.  KCJ's  book  might  need  a  reprint  -  and  it  might  work  out  if  the  orders  are  in  sufficient  numbers.

Also  address  of  ZSI,  Calcutta  office  please  for  anyone  wanting  to  buy  the  book  directly  from  there.

Atleast  we  will  have  quality  Indian  books  available  rather  than  have  some  dope  try  to  dupe  people  with  miserable  pictures  downloaded  from  the  internet.

 Hi  Madan,

ZSI  has  a  complicated  ordering  process.

 1.  payment  through  DD  only.
 2.  DD  should  be  in  favour  of  PAO  (BSI/ZSI),  Department  of  Environment,  Kolkata.
 3.  25%  discount  for  resellers  &  traders.
 4.  Postage  extra.
 5.  Address  :

 Publication  Production  Officer,
 Zoological  Survey  of  India,
 234/4,  A  J  C  Bose  Road,
 Kolkata  -  700  020.

 www.enviszsi.org

As  suggested  by  you,  I  will  contact  ZSI  &  ask  for  resellers  discount  which  can  be  passed  on  to  members.

Here  is  a  list  of  books  /  publications  which  might  be  of  interest  to  us.

 No.  -  Year  -  Pages  -  Name  -  Author  -  Price
 37  -  1982  -  41  -  Aid  to  identification  of  the  Siluroid  Fishes  of  India,  Burma,  Sri  Lanka,  Pakistan  &  Bangladesh  -  Dr  K  C  Jayaram  -  Rs  25/-
 64  -  1985  -  216  -  The  Fish  Fauna  of  Assam  &  neighbouring  North  Eastern  States  of  India  -  T  K  Sen  -  Rs  80/-
 70  -  1985  -  43  -  Fishes  of  Khasi  Hills  -  G  M  Yazdani  -  Rs  30/-
 175  -  1999  -  366  -  Checklist  of  Fresh  Water  Fishes  -  A  G  K  Menon  -  Rs  500/-

 Handbooks
 ?  -  1994  -  475  -  The  freshwater  fishes  of  India,  Pakistan,  Bangaldesh,  Sri  Lanka  &  Burma  -  Dr  K  C  Jayaram  -  Rs  350/-

 That's  a  Good  idea  Ravi.

The  25%  discount  will  almost  cover  the  package  and  mailing  from  ZSI,  Calcutta  to  you  and  then  on  to  the  members  who  buy  the  book.  That  will  be  a  very  good  deal.  The  members  will  then  get  the  book  home  delivered  for  a  bit  more  than  the  original  cost  price.

How  about  asking  people  to  post  their  orders  for  the  books  here?
Or  shall  we  wait  until  we  have  the  complete  list  of  books  available  at  hand.
 Both  Marine  and  Freshwater.

 Hi,  Madan  &  Ravi

I  will  check  with  ZSI  Calcutta  and  let  you  know  of  the  books  /  price  and  any  other  facility  available  today  and  let  you  know  tomorrow  or  day  after  tomorrow.

 regards
