I  would  like  to  share  this  plant  buying  experience  with  Living  Colour  Aquarium  Dhankawadi,  Pune,  MH.

Apperantally  I  was  withing  to  visit  this  shop  since  a  year  after  receiving  its  from  this  forum,  but  since  its  some  30+  km  from  my  home  it  was  delayed.

I  visited  it  last  week,  before  hand  I  had  called  them  up  and  had  informed  that  I'm  coming  from  so  and  so  location  etc!  I  had  also  enquired  about  the  plant  I  wanted  and  the  exact  cost  n  all!

When  I  reached,  the  shop  was  already  closed,  so  I  called  them  again  and  they  kindly  open  it  again.

It  has  a  lot  of  plant  variety  and  other  goodies  required.

Some  how  the  price  offered  was  around  125%  more  than  what  I  was  told  over  the  phone  for  that  particular  plant!  When  I  said  so,  then  only  I  was  shown  what  I  was  told  over  phone!  In  general  the  price  for  many  plants  was  atleast  50%  more  than  rest  of  Pune!

The  real  shock  came  during  the  packing!  I  assumed  it  would  be  a  professional  packing  like  rest  of  the  other  shops!  But  whola,  as  I  was  busy  looking  the  shop,  they  CUT  one  of  the  potted  plant  completely  and  I  was  given  just  the  cutting!  One  another  regular  customer  who  happen  to  there  scolded  them  and  then  I  just  stood  there  till  they  did  the  rest  of  the  professional  packing!  It  was  anything  but  to  avoid  any  damage  at  all!

I  puarchased  plants  worth  over  RS.xxxx/-,  and  yes  I  was  given  a  2.5%  discount!  (no  complaint  here  though!)

Last  time  I  purchased  plant  from  them  (Nov  2009),  they  asked  me  whether  I  want  with  pot  in  which  the  plants  are  potted.  Price  is  def  higher  than  rest  of  the  Pune.  Where  are  you  located  in  Pune?

Is  there  any  shop  in  Pune  where  plants  are  avilable  in  good  condition  at  better  rates?  I'm  from  Pradhikaran  area.

I've  visited  the  Dhankawadi  store  and  agree  with  you  completely.  They  have  a  great  selection  of  plants  and  would  be  the  perfect  place  for  plant  lovers  to  go  and  pick  up  everything  needed  to  setup  a  new  aquascape  or  planted  tank.  I  would  say  could  be  the  best  place  to  shop  except  for  the  pricing.  While  I  agree  that  for  specific  demanding  plants  and  slow  growing  varieties  a  lot  goes  into  growing  and  keeping  them,  some  of  the  prices  are  just  far  too  much  and  that  can  put  you  off  from  going  there  again.  For  example  I  was  quoted  between  300-400  for  a  single  small  pot  of  hairgrass  when  I  was  told  earlier  that  it  would  be  200  a  pot.

The  problem  in  Pune  is  that  while  most  stem  plants  and  common  strains  are  available  and  not  too  expensive,  things  like  riccia,  hairgrass,  glossostigma  and  a  number  of  others  which  have  demanding  requirements  are  not  stocked  by  most  which  is  why  we  end  up  having  to  shell  out  so  much.

We  should  start  a  thread  where  we  can  trade  cuttings  or  give  away  cuttings  of  plants  that  any  of  have  an  excess  of  Smile

Having  a  strong  united  group  of  local  planted  hobbyists  is  the  way  to  go.  This  way  you  can  trade  or  give  away  cuttings  to  less  fortunate  members  like  we  do  in  Bangalore.
It  just  takes  a  few  generous  members  to  start  and  give  the  lead.

Griping  about  the  local  shops  and  conditions  will  get  you  all  nowhere.

I  too  had  a  similar  experience  over  there,  but,  as  others  mentioned,  its  the  only  place  where  you  get  amazing  varieties.  I  too  second  Trevor  regarding  sharing  of  plants  within  hobbyists.  Just  rescaped  my  tank  &  would  love  to  share  my  plant  species  once  they  kick  off...
