Sounds good Nayak! Make sure you post the pics on the IAH gallery so I can see them.
All the picture hosting sites are blocked at work. |

Aplocheilus blockii
Will be edited............
Distribution- Parts of Deccan Plateau in Karnataka and Western Ghats.
Sexual Dimorphism- Not much. When the male displays he will have a black marking near his eyes. Otherwise the male and female appear same.
Feed- Carnivorous
Mating season- Anytime.
Hardiness- Survived and bred in my outdoor tank with Puntius Sahyadrensis as tank mates for the past one and a half years. 30% water change every 10 days or 50% every 15 days.
Feed- Dried brine shrimp flakes, Shrimp feed from Kumta and edible anything that tried to breed in my Balcony tanks.
Personal observation- When catching the fishes in my aquariums it was easy with the females and Juvies. What surprised me was when I had caught his harem the Alpha male almost voluntarily gave himself up. Is this some thing like a fish showing responsibility, that too a Aplocheilus? I have seen in the wild A. Lineatus defend its family as would a wild alpha horse in defending it's harem. Have to check with two separately caught groups of A. blockii.
Male
Female
Regards,
Nayak. |

Congrats Nayak. Will wait eagerly for the updates. Starting the thread with a native, beautiful Killi...nothing like it. Just one thing, thought I saw some of these in the Eastern parts of India or may be some other subspecies?
