Some  pictures  of  Nayak's  fish  room  during  construction.  More  pics  to  follow.

The  skylight  ceiling  letting  in  ambient  light  and  a  fan  to  keep  the  owner  cool.

Part  of  the  changed  layout.  Two  other  four  footer  and  three  footer  racks  are  not  seen  in  the  picture.

Every  Fish  room  needs  a  sink.

The  1/2  inch  PVC  air  pipe  with  brass  nozzles.  These  are  powered  with  an  HP  80  air  pump.  The  brass  T-  joint  is  for  CO2.

 Hi  Guys,

Whenever  you  see  a  glimpse  of  Nayak's  tanks/setup,  first  thing  strikes  is  clean  &  neatliness.  Absolutely  everything  seems  to  be  placed  in  order,  remember  his  previous  photos  where  even  mosquito  nets  were  so  tidily  placed  above  tank-tops  for  jumping  fishes.

hey,  Ranjit.  Thanks.  Long  time  Smile

 Guys,
I  am  going  to  make  a  lot  of  mistakes,  and   reserve  my  rights  to  correct  them.  Hence  every  post  of  mine  is  open  to  editing,  and  many  times  it  will  be  based  on  your  feedback's.  yes,  we  are  amateurs,  but  that  does  not  mean  we  do  a  shoddy  job  of  our  hobby.
But  the  feedback  has  to  be  authentic  and  be  backed  by  scientific  papers  or  your  genuine  personal  experience.  Like  Madan  said  "  I  trust  IAH'ians  more  than  I  trust  internet".

 Regards,
 Nayak.

Hamza,  Trevor  has  those  Pics.  I  will  ask  him  to  post  on  Saturday.  He  is  a  bit  busy  now.

 Aplocheilus  blockii(Type  locality???).......Thanks,  Madhu.

I  had  a  tank  of  size  1.5*1*1  into  which  I  had  added  three  Aplocheilus  panchax  caught  during  our  Kumaradhra  trip.  These  fishes  were  in  a  ratio  of  a  male  to  two  females  and  were  around  2.0  inches.  For  the  past  year  the  tank  had  witnessed  regular  water  changes  and  feeding.  Being  in  a  remote  corner  I  had  no  access  to  properly  observe  the  fishes.

Yesterday  when  I  tried  catching  those  fishes  and  transferring  them  into  my  fishroom,  I  was  in  for  a  surprise!  Instead  of  three  there  were  around  10  fishes,  all  of  them  around  0.5  to  1  inch.  And  they  looked  very  similar  to  A.blockii  except  for  the  iridescent  blue  tinge  on  their  finnage.  So  are  these  geographic  variants  of  A.blockii  or  due  to  congestion,  overpopulation,  minimal  feeding  and  inbreeding  these  are  the  dwarfs  of  A.panchax?

Distribution-  I  have  seen  them  in  Nethravathi  and  Kumaradhara,  South  Canara,  Karnataka..
Sexual  Dimorphism-  Can  easily  make  out.  Males  are  slimmer  and  more  colorful.  Females  plumper  and  more  like  Gambusia  females  with  Blue  tinge.  I  have  read  on  international  sites  that  differentiating  sex  is  difficult.  It  is  difficult  only  if  you  shut  your  eyes,  and  I  am  talking  about  wild  caughts!  Not  farm  bred:)
 Mating  season-  Anytime.
Hardiness-  Tough  guys.  Can  withstand  a  lot  of  mishandling;(
Feed-  Dried  brine  shrimp  flakes  and  edible  anything  that  tried  to  breed  in  my  Balcony  tanks.
Personal  observation-  very  beautiful  fishes.  The  blue  iridescence  is  much  more  pronounced  in  ambient  sunlight  and  is  really  glorious.  Neons  and  Cardinals,  go  take  a  hike!  Miserable  jumpers,  always  keep  your  A.panchax  tank  covered  at  all  times.

More  bashful  than  a  co-ed  on  her  first  date,  never  really  posing  for  pics.

And  my  DSC-H5  simply  refuses  to  focus  on  this  jittery  fish.  But  I  think  you  get  the  Idea.

 A  female....

Catching  A.panchax  in  the  wild.  Shankar  and  Rahul  in  the  pics.  Shankar  saw  a  Spectacled  Indian  Cobra  here.  I  know  the  faces  are  not  visible,  But  trust  me  anyways  Chuckle

 Regards,
 Nayak.
P.S:  Sorry  for  uploading  the  pics  on  an  external  site.  My  IAH  Gallery  no  longer  exists?  Sad
