 hi  guys  !

Just  could  not  resist  this  ...    got  a  Red  Star  fish  and  some  dottybacks  and  took  pics  of  them.

The  Red  star  Fish  looks  so  amazing.  One  can  sit  and  marvel  at  it's  color  and  shape  for  hours.  Even  my  maid  servant  sat  down  to  see  it  for  15mins  and  came  down  and  asked  me  ..what  is  that  colorful  ROck  ?    Very Happy

The  Dottybacks  are  of  such  boisterous  character  and  color  even  the  best  of  cichlids  would  like  to  swim  with  it  !

I  will  post  more  pics  when  I  get  more  fishes.

p.s.  :  There  is  algae  in  the  tank  (  thus  tank  is  not  good  looking)  but    i  can  stock  more  fishes  becoz  of  the  algae  Cheer

i  used  to  have  this  star  in  my  tank  too...it  is  called  Protoreastor  lincki

Since  you  have  a  Echinoderm  in  your  tank  it  would  be  wise  if  you  read  up  on  the  following  article

thanks  Gokulin  ..hey  have  you  setup  your  marine  tank  ?

I  am  also  going  to  post  the  updated  pics  of  my  small  marine  tank  in  which  I  have  put  some  Rocks  too  !!

supershaji  ,  I  cant  say  how  much  you  can  get  a  Star  fish  in  Hyderabad,  could  be  anywhere  between  500  to  2000  (  imported  ones).  though  this  is  a  just    guess  on  the  basis  of  Mumbai  Prices  and  check  out  local  hobbyists  or  LFS  for  it.

 Best  Regards,
 Doka

Looks  like  a  Red  Knob  Starfish  to  me.  Think  they  are  collected  off  the  Rameshwaram  coast.  Chennai  prices  should  be  pretty  cheap..

 thanx  beta/doka,

im  planning  to  visit  chennai  on  the  pretext  of  work  Smile  but  i  plan  to  do  a  lot  of  fishy  shopping  there.  i  have  learnt  from  this  forum  that  prices  are  a  lot  cheaper  in  Chennai  then  Hyderabad.  Hyderabad  is  quite  expensive,  and  then,  we  dont  even  get  the  right  info.

btw,  since  we  at  it,  how  much  should  a  kg  of  sea  salt  ideally  cost,  here  it's  abt  175/kg.  is  that  ok?

 Dear  supershaji,

for  the  Red  Star  knob  fish  ,  chennai  is  the  place  to  get  it  as  they  come  from  there.  Regarding  prices  of  salt  ,  if  you  are  going  for  Red  Sea  Salt  ,  get  in  touch  with  Shankar  as  he  is  the  guy  for  marine  in  Chennai  as  he  a  crazy  Hobbyist  of  marine  and  mostly  has  all  the  info  about  marine  stuff.

And  also  Nytyn  from  Coimbatore  is  another  guy  who  can  help  you  out  in  the  marine.

 Best  Regards,
 Doka

The  Red  Knob  is  native  to  our  Eastern  Sea  Board  and  they  are  very  inexpensive  when  bought  in  Chennai  but  in  Mumbai  they  charge  a  BOMB.    Sad
