 Guys,
I've  been  planning  for  a  39x18x18  tank  low  light  planted  tank  with  discuss  for  quite  sometime  now.  I  was  advised  my  one  of  my  friend  that  Discuss  can't  be  kept  with  algae  eaters.  He  states  that  the  algae  eaters  just  love  the  slime  that  discuss  have  on  their  body??  The  stock  for  tank  that  I'm  planning  is
 12  Otos
 4  Whiptails
4  Bristle  nose  Pleco  (tentative,  will  keep  them  only  if  I  get  the  normal  ones  not  the  albino  ones)
 6  SAE  (True)
 24  Cardinals

Is  there  any  fish  that  doesn't  go  well  with  the  Discuss.  If  not  Discuss  what  other  fish  would  you  suggest.  Minus  the  SAE  this  tank  is  a  total  SA  tank.

Algae  eaters  -  mainly  the  large  Pleco  go  for  the  discuss  slime.
Ottos  and  whiptails  should  not  be  an  issue.  I  suggest  you  do  away  with  whiptails  if  you  are  keeping  bristlenose.
6  True  SAE,  well  plan  on  getting  rid  of  them  when  they  get  to  about  2  inches.  They  start  to  go  for  fish  food  by  then  and  don't  do  algae.

Bristle  nose  are  good.  The  Aquarium  Store  has  a  few  Starlight  Pleco  juvies.  I  got  4  of  them  recently.

Is  this  the  same  as  Jib  got  for  himself!?  I  got  my  SAE's  from  Matsyavatar  wanted  a  few  more  they  are  well  past  the  2inch  mark  but  I  still  find  them  going  for  algae  and  since  algae  is  currently  0  in  my  tank  I've  started  feeding  them  with  algae  wafers.  I  hope  the  Stralight  won't  be  a  problem  with  Discus.

How  many  discus  will  u  keep  with  12  Ottos,  4  Whiptails,  4  Bristle  nose  Pleco,  6  SAE  (True),  24  Cardinals  in  a  39x18x18  tank?  The  tank  will  be  overcrowded  if  add  all  the  above  mentioned  fish.  It  is  best  to  keep  4-5  discus  with  6  ottos+6  cardinals.

The  minimum  requirement  for  a  reasonable  discus  tank  is  4X2X2'.  I  am  of  the  opinion  not  to  keep  any  other  fish  with  discus.  If  you  are  still  insisting  go  in  for  cardinals  and  other  peaceful  shoaling  fishes.  But  your  existing  tank,  I  am  not  sure  is  good  to  house  discus  with  all  the  bioload.  What  type  of  filteration  system  have  you  got.  What  is  your  water  change  regieme.  Discus  are  sensitive  fishes  and  need  clean  ammonia  and  nitrate  free  water.  I  think  a  external  cannister  filter  would  do  the  job.

 Just  my  two  pence.  Regards

If  you  are  new  to  discus,  better  to  start  with  3"  size  ones.
Lesser  size  juveniles  need  multiple  feedings  &  water-changes  for  proper  growth.

If  you  intend  to  get  pair  out  of  the  lot,  start  with  few  more  (6nos.  have  least  probability  of  pairing).

This  seems  a  lot  of  work.  Not  that  I  don't  want  to  do  it.  But  office  and  such  strict  regime  is  very  difficult.  Any  other  fish  that  could  be  added  to  this  set  up!?

I  would  not  recommend  any  other  fish  (  excpet  peaceful  tetras  like  neon,  cardinal,  rummy  nose..etc)  in  a  discus  tank.  Also  good  water  quality  is  a  must.  so  think  about  the  numbers  accordingly.

 Good  Luck
