The male is still gaurding the place big time.... Today morning when I dropped in some food and some of it went into a gap not accessible for the fish... so I tried to move the rock a little so that he could access the food... and he came all force to rip my finger... this is the first time I am seeing him do that.... usually he backs away to a far corner when my hand goes into the tank...
One thing I noticed is that the female doesn't allow him to gaurd the cave where the wrigglers are.... she is the one who stands gaurd.. and pushes out the male when he goes very close to the cave...

The internal filter is still in place but its pumping at a reduced flowrate of ~600 lph since the sponge media needs cleaning... also the nest is atleast 4 feet away from the filter.... thats the reason why the filter is still in there. Mudassir (icecube) was telling me that the frys need some gentle flow in the water for the body to shape up properly... So I am confused about what to do here? Since I am still sitting on the wall not knowing which side to jump.... I went to the store and got a sponge filter and an airpump.
Another confusion is if I move the fry to a spare tank, the pair would spawn again. What am I going to do with so many Texas??
Since the tank is a 5 feet in size I am wondering if the frys can continue to stay with the parents. Maybe a partition?
Thanks for the wishes. The congratulations should go out to the Texas pair. They are continuing to do their job well and that too with their first spawn. Nature continues to amaze me.

on filter -
You will not be able to stop the frys going near the filter and i am sure they will be sucked up even if its running at 600 l/h....should be off atleast for another 7 days if you plan to keep them in the same tank.
if you are confused i would suggest raise some of them in a separate tank and leave some in the main tank with the parents.....
you will continue to see the behaviour of the parent texas ( i am sure nature will amaze you again).....as well you will have some to raise on your own.

Breeding depends a lot on type of fish you have, the tank setup, tank mates, size of the fish, water conditions. Please start a new topic thread and give you tank details. I am sure the experts here would help you out.
In my case I multiple discussions with experienced hobbyists and tried to make my setup as natural as possible and without over stocking. My water change regime was 50% every 10-12 days. I got four texas when they were like 2 to 2 1/2 inches and hoped to find a pair in them. Eventually a pair did form and now the spawning. Laila had brought the water temperatures down and four days before that I had made a water change. I think the temperature reduction along with the water change could have triggered the spawning. But this might not work for the type of fish you have.
So please do start a thread and you would for sure find help. The key to a good setup is to listen to the experienced folks and be receptive to their advice. This is where I see lot of newbies making a mistake.

I would remove the filter and put the sponge filter in there. Now have a doubt. If the fry decide to take a swim away from the parents wont the school of giant danios makes merry. I am sure they wont allow them to reach as far as the filter.
The problem right now is that the two spare tank are full. One has a school of 10 serpaes and the plecos (removed from the Texas tank). The other has the P.lalas and chromides collected from the Sunday collection trip.
Wifey doesnt want me to give away the tetras nor the danios...
Any other solution in this present scenario. Can I keep the serpae, P.lala and chromides in a same tank. Then the plecos can go back to the main tank and the fry can come to the spare tank.
Or should I stay away from all this and see how Darwin's theory unfolds.

Hello Sai thambi,
I too feel the same way at times... want to sit back and watch how they handle the situation. The sponge filter thing makes sense but i wonder how the parents are going to take care of the babies from others. Maybe I should just sit back and watch how they manage the situation instead of acting like a ring master and controlling the happenings.

Right now the parents have been able to keep everyone else at bay... that includes me too...
I also hope that the male would ward off the danios.... else i am even thinking of leaving the danios back into their habitat...
Some updates from today evening...
The parents have camouflaged themselves into ninja assassins...
You can see the wrigglers appearing as a grey mass in the pit and lot more in that cave...
The DIY BBS hatchery... this is my first attempt and I am keeping my fingers crossed...
Tried to take a video with my camera... very bad resolution and also like a manirathnam movie (shot in dark)...
The initial part attempts at capturing the wrigglers.... in the later half you can see the alpha attacking my finger when I take in near the glass.... he doesn't want anything moving within one feet of the pit....

Update from today evening is that all the frys are free swimming now... there are LOTS and LOTS of them in pit and they are slowy starting to move out of the pit and spread over.... the mama fish is trying to get them back into the pit.... The first feed was egg yolk mixed well in water... took it with the help of a tube and syringe and released it near the frys....
Since the frys have decided to start moving.... I am a little worried if they would wander far away in the 5 feeter and parents would lose track of them...
today morning the danios were removed from the tank.... so the tank is left with just the parents and their frys... also added a sponge filter has replaced the powerhead...
