 Hi  Sandy,

Good  to  hear  you  after  long  time.
Tails  tip  burn  is  more  due  to  change  of  water,  this  planted  tank  water  pH  is  bit  higher  compared  to  their  regular  tank  one.
Nothing  serious  though  &  it  will  recover  soon.  Their  tank  was  re-siliconed  today  &  pair  is  back  to  their  bare-bottom  home.  Smile

Actually  I  don't  want  this  thread  to  inspire  people  going  for  planted  discus  tank  hence  termed  it  as  'Unusual  Environment'.  Chuckle
If  I  let  this  pair  remain  in  said  conditions  for  next  few  months,  they  will  lose  their  'Disc'us  shape  for  sure.

Yogesh,  isn't  this  tail  burn  mainly  due  to  the  ammonia  spike  seen  after  a  waterc  hange  and/or  through  filter  cleaning  ?!
Regular  water  change  or  pH  changes  should  not  cause  this  tail  burn  immedaitely.........
Correct  me  if  I'm  wrong  .

 Prabhu,

This  tail-tip  burn  was  observed  very  next  morning  when  I  dropped  the  pair  previous  night.  This  tank  was  having  stale  water  of  4-5  days  &  also  housing  some  Sterbai  corys  &  Golden  A.  lineatus.  Doesn't  ammonia-burn  affect  eye  &  gill  area  of  any  fish  and  not  tail  ?
Discus  tail  was  back  to  normal  within  couple  of  days  in  their  regular  BB  tank.  Smile

Don't  have  any  serious  planted  tank  or  bowls  as  of  now  though.  Chuckle
