Nice  trip.  Good  to  see  hobbyists  pouring  sweat  and  blood  to  get  to  the  fish.

That  kind  of  interest  is  what  India  needs  among  hobbyists.  Spreads  the  thought  of  conservation  amongst  younger  minds.

 Badis  sp.  ????   Surprised

 Badis  sp.  ????   Surprised

On  Sunday  I  met  young  college  students  from  the  Center  of  Wildlife  Studies,  Mangalore  who  were  hunting  to  spot  the  King  Cobra.

They  could  not  get  50  to  100  meters  into  the  forest  without  the  multiple  pronged  attack  of  the  leeches.

Rushing  back  to  the  Ghat  road  they  did  a  war  dance  stomping  their  feet  jumping,  twisting,  turning  and  flinging  their  socks  in  the  air  to  get  rid  of  the  leeches.

Gave  them  some  rock  salt,  coconut  oil  and  tobacco  to  rub.
This  place  gets  one  of  the  highest  rainfall  in  the  world  and  since  the  showers  had  already  started  no  antidote  worked  for  long.

leeches  are  just  a  part  of  the  problem  in  malnad  region..poison  ivy,  snakes,  caterpillers  ,  poisonous  mushrooms,  and  flowers,  insects  which  can  cause  serious  skin  rashes  and  burns  etc  etc  etc  ...please  believe  me  these  places  are  not  for  the  faint-hearted,  hats  off   for  all  of  you  guys  for  enduring  this  trip  not  once  but  twice  Bow

It  feels  good  to  have  these  good  looking  dudes  named  after  me.  Smile

The  Macrobrachium  have  all  gone  under  the  piles  of  rocks  in  the  aquarium.  Will  wait  for  them  to  settle  down  before  photographing.

The  Macrobrachium  trevori  red  looks  much  better  than  the  photograph.  Smile
Was  it  you  or  Rahul  who  caught  it  ?  Confused

Yes.  The  red  shrimp  looks  even  better  than  a  CRS.  This  is  one  time  I  wish  I  had  a  high  end  camera.  Crying or Very sad

We  should  get  them  in  sufficient  numbers  and  start  acclimatizing  them  since  they  come  from  highly  oxygenated  pure  waters.

Diffusing  pressurized  oxygen  into  their  aquarium  is  one  way  till  they  gradually  and  eventually  acclimatize.
