 Hello  everybody,

Hope  all  are  doing  good  !!

As  the  topic  mentioned  above  ,  one  of  my  discus  is  having  a  fungal  infection  from  4  to  5  days  on  his  anal  fin  (  you  can  see  that  in  the  pic  below)

His  feeding  and  motion  is  good  ,,only  sometime  I  don’t  know  what  happens  he  turns  black  and  faces  upwards  (Pic  2  &  3  )

And  when  I  go  near  he  is  ok  (pic  4  &  5)
 (Note  :  Pic  4  &  5  are  on  next  comment  )

So  my  question  is  what  is  the  reason  for  fungus  ,  treatment  for  the  same  (does  it  spreads)
And  why  he  faces  the  sky  every  now  and  then,  is  it  the  sign  that  he  is  goin  to  DIE

 I  need  your  support  guys

 Thanks

You  will  need  to  quarantine  the  infected  discus  &  treat  him  with  anti-fungus  medicine  like  Melafix  or  Rid-All.
If  not  cured  early,  it  will  spread  over  its  body  and  will  also  affect  other  chaps  in  your  tank.

Fungus  is  something  very  uncommon  with  discus  in  the  normal  course.  Maybe  discus  may  have  come  fungus-infected  from  your  source  and  becoming  black  due  to  stress.  What  is  your  water-changing  regime?

Vaibhav,  put  some  rock  salt  as  well  when  you  are  treating  it.

BTW,  whats  your  tank  dimension,  number  of  discus,  any  other  fishes  and  WC  schedule  ?

the  infection...  is  it  that  white  patch  in  the  picture  ?,

I  think  this  had  happened  to  your  discus  earlier  also..right?  Yogo  had  said  it  could  be  chlorine  burns..  is  that  happening  again?  RAINS  are  here,  so  lets  get  prepared  for  all  the  water  problems  as  well  as  any  other.

 Thank  you  guys  !!

@garothman  :-  ya  i  also  thought  that  it  might  be  clorine  burn  ,  but  if  you  see  it  logically  it  can  be  fungus  cause  i  save  water  for  24  hr  using  a  hypo  as  well  ,  so  IMO  it  is  99%  fungus  and  1%  clorine  burn  chances.

@adesh:-  my  tank  dimension  is  2'-1.8'-1.5'  total  93  litres  ,  10  2inch  discus  adn  2  4inch  disucs  total  12  (i  konw  tank  size  is  small  planning  for  4  feet),  WC  50%  daily  and  80%  twice  a  week  (wed  &  sun)?

@Experts  :-  I  think  its  high  time  now  casue  today  i  saw  my  other  big  fish  as  also  got  white  patch  ,  i  hink  i  should  start  heater  as  well  as  the  treatment  (please  suggest  me  the  treatment  as  well  as  should  i  continue  feeding  while  treatment)

Note  :-  I  would  be  treating  all  my  fishes  reaseon  as  follows
 1)  I  think  it  is  spreading  ,  so  it  might  hav   harmed  my  other  fishes  as  well
 2)  i  have  only  one  tank

 so  please  help  guys

 thanks

hi  ,  i  am  not  planning  for  any  treatment  right  now  ,  just  planning  to  switch  on  heater  and  use  salt+  metheleyn  blue....since  from  past  5  days  i  am  just  using  MB+salt  ,  but  no  heater
so  planning  this  treatment  with  heater  for  2  days  lets  see  if  it  works  out.

breaking  news:-  i  just  now  got  the  news  from  my  uncle  that   the  source  from  which  i  collected  discus  earlier  had  fungus  problem  and  that  guys  treated  them  from  teramicine,,,,  but  when  i  got  these  new  once  i  had  aslo  qurantined  them  for  5  days  ,,  dont  know  how  it  came  back  again

Can  you  post  a  clearer  picture  please.  Have  you  added  salt?  After  adding  salt,  change  water  next  day  50%.  It  will  take  about  2  weeks  to  cure.  You  can  alternately  use  ridall  blue  liquid  also.  What  food  do  you  give  them?  if  you  are  making  the  food  inhouse,  then  next  time  add  a  little  garlic.  Yours  is  becoming  a  frequent  problem,  so  henceforth  keep  using  garlic  in  food.  Besides,  can  you  wash  the  tank  and  recycle  the  whole  thing  right  from  start?  if  all  this  doesnot  work,  then  PP  can  help.  but  PP  is  the  last  effort,  I  think  salt  and  ridaal,  WC  50%  daily  should  work   or  else  bring  it  to  my  place  Very Happy

should  i  continue  with  feeding  during  treatment  since  it  for  2weeks

Thats  good,  but  this  problem  will  require  seperation  of  the  fish  from  the  others.  Dont  you  have  a  fresh  bucket,  or  else  wash  1  used  bucket  with  red  hot  water  and  dry  it  with,  then  use  salt  water  and  use  it  as  hospital  tank.   Or  else  bring  it  here  to  my  place.  I'll  treat  it  and  give  it  back..  Smile

 hello  everyone

 Thanks  for  your  valuable  suggestions.

Good  News  is  that  my  fish  as  recovered  ,  looks  like  heater  (32  degree)  +  MB  +  salt  has  done  the  trick  ,  but  still  i'll  be  continuing  this  treatment  for  3  more  days

Should  i  go  for  other  treatment  now  like  PP  or  any  other  (cause  i  donot  want  the  same  problem  again)

if  yes  how  should  i  go  about  it.  my  tank  size  is  2  feet  (93  litre  approx)

 Thanks

 vaibhav,  thats  good  news.

I  wont  recommend  PP  treatment  now  as  your  fish  has  recovered  well  and  on  top  of  that  PP  if  not  treated  correctly  has  some  side  effects  of  it.  I  may  be  wrong,  experts  can  shed  some  light  on  this.
