 hey  guys,
Me  and  a  friend  of  mine  had  been  on  a  collection  today  and  collected  something  really  weird,
something  i  thought  never  existed  in  Indian  waters,  atleast  not  in  the  place  where  we  collected  it,
it  was  collected  in  a  puddle  formed  when  one  of  the  lakes  had  dried  up  making  a  gap  between  this  puddle  and  the  lake, the  thing  i  am  talking  about  is  the  FAIRY  SHRIMP,
Want  to  know  whether  its  a  native  or  what??
here  are  a  few  pics  attached,
also  other  fish  collected  are  regulars,
 1)L.thermails
 2)esomus  danricus
 3)puntius  bimaculatus
 4)oryzias
 5)puntius  cochonius
 6)Macrognathus  siamensis
 7)tilapais
 8)rasbora  daniconius
here  are  the  pics  fo  the  Fairy  shrimp,
have  set  up  a  tank  for  them  and  planning  to  culture  them,

I  cant  say  they  are  gorgeous,  but  nice  pics  there!

Any  idea  what  they  eat  how  much  they  grow,  etc?

They  look  like  some  good  nutritious  food  for  fish.

 Nice  catch  BTW.

they  are  filter  feeders,  grow  upto  1  inch,  have  a  life  span  of  6-8  weeks,
sexually  mature  at  1/2  inch  size,

yes  they  are  a  very  nutritious  food  for  fish,  infact  they  are  known  as  the  freshwater  brineshrimp,

Fairy  Shrimp.  If  you  carry  the  substrate  from  that  puddle  back  home,  there  are  good  chances  of  cysts  for  running  a  culture.

Fairy  Shrimp.  If  you  carry  the  substrate  from  that  puddle  back  home,  there  are  good  chances  of  cysts  for  running  a  culture.

if  i  go  and  collect  the  substrate  will  i  have  to  dry  it  for  a  few  days  and  re-wet  it  again  so  the  eggs  hatch  or  will  they  hatch  automatically?
i  read  somewhere  that  the  eggs  should  be  dried  and  re-wetted  so  they  hatch,
 any  tips??

 Mudassir,

We  have  also  caught  the  fairy  shrimps  (yes,  I  am  trying  to  sound  smart,  even  when  it  is  yet  under  a  minute  I  found  out  what  these  creaturea  are!   Chuckle  )  in  Pune  too.  These  were  found  in  a  puddle  after  heavy  non  seasonal  rains.  didn't  try  to  culture  the  guys,  but  will  do  it  now,  with  some  research  on  them.  My  bettas  love  them!
