Broad  leaf  plants  are  best  in  Discus  tank  but  can  grow  anytype  of  plant.

 Change  water  twice  a  week.

i  am  planted  Anubias,  java  fern  and  jaint  Vallisnaria  and  amazone  in  my  planted  Discus  tank.
vallisnaria  can  be  planted  at  back  side  of  the  tank  so  that  the  discus  can  Roam  at  front  of  the  tank.
   Twice  a  week  water  change.

For  15"  high  tank  i  suggest  you  go  for  Anubias  and  java  ferns  as  most  of  the  plants  like  echinodorus  and  vals  grow  quite  big.
And  also  they  can  thrive  in  water  temp  above  28  degree.

 Raj..

 thanks  for  all  your  suggestions

instead  of  java  fern  and  anubias,  is   hairgrass/dwarf  sagitaria  carpet  a  good  idea?

What  kind  of  wood  is  that  on  the  left  and  right  side?hair  grass  and  sagitaria  would  certainly  look  good.but  siphoning  would  be  a  big  pain.

I  think  your  tank  size  may  be  too  small  for  discus.  They  do  grow  rather  large  eventually-  provided  you  give  them  good  conditions.  I  think  that  may  not  be  possible  given  your  tank  dimensions.
