 HI  Nirav,

Been  reading  the  whole  day  on  the  Nano  of  Adam  Crouch.  Highly  inspiring.  So  just  decided  to  start  a  nano  reef.  """What  am  I  getting  into?""http://indianaquariumhobbyist.com/community/modules/Forums/images/smiles/thumbups.gif

I  already  have  a  15  inch  by  15  inch  by  15  inch  spare  tank.  Can  work  out  fine  for  this  project.

Just  advice  me  where  can  I  get  Corals  here  in  India.  Rest  all  I  can  manage  as  for  the  equipments.  Just  the  corals  cause  they  make  the  nano  look  beautiful.

Secondly,  the  seas  around  Goa  are  clean.  Can  I  use  the  sea  water  directly  instead  of  rigging  up  own  salt  water  myself.  Since  a  10-20%  weekly  water  change  would  make  around  5-7  litres  of  water  requirement,  that  should  not  be  much  of  a  problem.  In  fact  I  use  the  sea  water  to  hatch  my  brine  shrimps  and  the  same  water  for  growing  up  the  brine  shrimps.  No  additions  of  any  green  water,  yeast,  food  etc.  The  brine  shrimps  grow  up  on  whatever  food  sources  are  there  in  the  sea  water.

 Pls  advice.

 Cheers,

 Vijay.

 Hi  Vijay,

I  have  no  idea  of  the  source  of  corals  and  probably  you  are  asking  this  in  the  wrong  forum.  Its  illegal  to  sell,  keep  or  trade  in  corals  in  India.

With  regards  to  Sea  water  ,  if  you  are  able  to  procure  the  water  from  the  mid  sea  using  some  fisher  man  or  just  a  boat  ride  it  should  be  fine.  Just  get  it  about  15  mtrs  below.  you  could  use  a  long  rope  tied  to  a  bucket  and  get  it.  should  be  no  problem.  yes  but  you  may  bring  along  some  wild  diseases  and  infections  along,  so  be  prepared  for  it.  If  this  is  so  easy  for  you,  i  would  do  daily  water  changes  ;-)

 Warm  Regards

 Hi  Nirav,
Please  do  upload  some  pics  of  your  setup.  I  am  planning  to  setup  a  Marine  Tank  myself  and  contemplating  between  using  my  current  36  x  18  x  18  freshwater  setup  or  having  a  new  Nano  setup  like  the  one  you  have  done.

 Regards

 Vijay,

i  really  wouldnt  suggest  that  u  use  the  water  from  the  Goa  seas.  i  had  the  oppertunity  to  meet  a  SW  breeder  in  Kadmath  island,  off  the  coast  of  kerala  and  he  showed  me  the  difference  in  the  water  conditions  we  have  and  what  they  have.  it  might  suffice  for  your  brine  shrimps  but  sustaining  a  SW  setup,  like  Nirav  said,  could  create  problems.  you're  better  off  with  making  your  own  saltwater.

as  for  corals,  drop  me  a  pm.  i  might  be  in  a  position  to  work  something  out  for  u.

 Hi,

Here  is  one  pic,  just  added  a  pink  skunk  clown  and  a  small  coral  garden  that  has  a  red  mushroom,  a  GSP  and  green  button  zoanthid.

Sorry  for  the  quality  of  the  pic  its  from  a  cell  cam.  The  LED's  attached  are  1W  make  shift  ones.

Will  click  some  more  pics  with  a  better  cam  soon  once  i  add  some  more  stuff.

 Hi  Nirav,

The  tank  seems  to  be  dimly  lit.  Read  somewhere  that  for  reefs  the  lighting  needs  to  be  around  5  watts  per  gallon.  Advice  what  kind  of  lighting  you  are  using.

You  got  a  load  of  live  rock  out  there.  Looking  great.  I  can  see  the  mushroom,  but  cant  make  out  the  Green  star  polyp  and  the  zoan.  Could  you  post  the  pictures  of  those  ones.

 Cheers,

 Vijay.

 Hi,

Loads,  the  tanks  moved  out  to  a  friend  of  mine,  he  is  now  running  it.  Have  added  an  array  of  14  X  1W  LED's  on  a  wooden  pannel  hung  above  the  tank  at  a  distance  of  10"  aprox.  Will  also  be  adding  one  T5  Actinic  Tube  of  24W  soon.

i  guess  its  all  in  the  size.   i  just  saw  a  nano  tank  a  few  days  ago  in  bangkok.   5x3x4  INCHES!!!!!  (LxDxH)
it  had  a  tiny  HOB  filter  with  some  coral  sand  and  a  few  small  pieces  of  live  rock  and  about  3  shrimp.   there  was  lots  of  purple  algae  all  over  and  the  tank  was  running  for  more  than  18  months  -  thai  owner  "no  engrish".

i  was  not  really  looking  for  marine  products  so  i  didn't  pay  too  much  attention  to  it.   it  had  a  small  light  what  i  thought  might  be  LED  in  a  floating/  hanging  layout  with  a  DIY  holder  supported  on  a  plate  on  which  the  tank  was  resting.   No  thermocol  sheet  ;-)
was  rather  surprised  at  the  size  and  set  up  though

This  thread  by  Nirav  was  a  teaser  Thumbs Up   Thumbs Up   Thumbs Up   Thumbs Up

Warning:  DONT  GET  INTO  MARINE  BY  READING  THIS  THREAD  OF  A  7xxx  FIGURE.

BEFORE  YOU  KNOW  IT  IT  WILL  BECOME  A  7xxxx.  And  still  keep  on  going  up.  Nirav  knows  my  case  since  i  place  most  of  my  orders  to  him  only.  Take  my  words  for  it.  It  started  similarly  for  me  after  going  through  Adam's  thread  and  now  here  I  am.  But  it  has  been  a  great  journey.

 SO  BEWARE.

 Cheers,

 Vijay.

yes  marine  like  any  other  set  up  is  very  exciting,  especially  when  you  visit  a  place  like  bangkok  and  see  the  various  things  available  there.   and  slowly  i  can  imagine  the  nano  marine  spawns  bigger  and  bigger  tanks  over  the  years.     Chuckle

I  totally  agree  with  Vijay.  The  marine  and  reef  hobby  is  like  being  addicted  to  heroin.  Once  your  hooked,  you'll  do  anything  to  get  your  fix.  And  trust  me  you'll  never  stop  at  just  a  nano.  Only  certain  human  beings  like  the  Julian  Assange  of  hobbyists  -  Sri  Sri  GatorX  have  what  it  takes  to  keep  at  it.  Jai  Ho  Gator  sir.
