 Where  are  you  from  ?
You  must  looked  in  the  wrong  place.
You  could  have  posted   a  query  here  in  the  very  first  place.
There  are  few  LFS  where  couple  of  us  bought  from.

Members  from  pune  can  help  you.

Try  at  Living  Color  Aquarium  on  Satara  Road  near  Bharati  Vidyapeeth.
The  owner  is  known  as  Indrajeet  bansal.
He  used  to  have  lot  of  it
I  think  he  should  still  have  it.

I  also  have  Moss  in  my  tank  but  not  as  much  as  something  that  can  be  sold  or  given  away.

Please  try  your  luck  with  this  LFS  given  above
If  you  still  cant  find  it  maybe  we  can  work  out  something

You  can  give  me  a  call  at  my  cell.
Incidentally,my  work  place  is  in  Hinjewadi  near  wakad.

 Rohan

PostPosted: Thu Jan 19, 2006 1:05 pm Post subject: Sunday Meeting I am on it!!!! Reply with quote

 Gi  Guys

Here  is  some  more  infor  about  my  me  and  my  setup.
I  am  Rohit  working  in  Symantec  Software.  Married  have  a  3  year  old  sweet  gal  aarya  and  another  on  way.

Got  the  aquarium  virus  from  by  Bro_in_law.  Not  knowing  anything  about  fishkeeping  ,  tank  cycling  anything  wasted  about  a  year  trying  different  bowls,  letting  die  some  fishes..  Almost  gave  up.
Finally  decided  to  go  big  way  and  now  I  have  4  feet  by  2.5  feet  by  1.5  feet  tank.  First  I  built  the  tank  myself  also  the  external  canister  filter.
Below  is  the  story  about  it  from  other  post.

Currently  I  have  chilids  white,  blue  and  white  striped.  spotted  perch,  albino  krib,  black  ghost,  albino  tiger  barb.  And  now  a  mismatch..
pair  of  goldfish!!!  Can't  help..  he  is  from  my  old  setup...

All  fishes  looks  happy  and  healthy..  All  bought  as  babies..

Sunday  meeting  I  am  on.........  (Except    some  unknown  comes  the  way)
I  can  be  reached  at  9850757916

 Thanks  for  the  welcome    Cheering

 -------------------------------------------------------------------
First  I  was  out  of  action  for  almost  2  weeks.  The  4x3x1.5  feet  tank  that  I  built  on  my  own  cracked  after  1  month    .  Detailed  analysis  can  point  to  2  main  reasons
 1.  The  metal  supprort  frame  on  the  top  was  unadaquate  to  support  the  tank  in  the  middle  position.
 2.  All  the  sides  glasses  of  the  tanks  were  standing  on  the  base  surface  that  did  not  let  the  glass  to  get  the  flex  that  a  silicon  can  provide.

So  this  time  I  got  wiser  and  got  the  tank  built  from  a  LFS.

 Now  about  the  filter.

 This  project  is  really  rocking
It's  been  now  almost  2  months  since  the  filter  is  working  the  water  is  always  crystan  clear.  I  have  done  20%  water  change  only  once  in  last  2  months.  All  the  fish  are  happy  swimming  around  and  growing.  so  sign  of  stress.  (I  need  to  check  with  ph  and  for  ammonia  but  did  not  get  the  kit  yet)

Only  drawback  of  my  project  is  the  size  of  the  drum.  But  since  I  have  the  setup  outdoor  it's  not  a  problem  for  me.  Taotal  cost  to  build  this  DIY  filter  was  as  follows
 1.  Blue  Industrial  Drum  with  metral  locking  clip  350
 2.  Piping  ,  clips,  connectors  500
 3.  20  dozen  pumice  stone  500
 4.  sponge  sheet  200
 5.  Boyu  2000Ltrs/hr  pump  1000
 ----------------------------
 Total  2550

The  filter  circulates  the  water  at  the  rate  of  800  Ltrs/h  of  my  400  Litres  tank.  I  have  started  not  shutting  off  the  filter  at  night  so  that  fishes  will  get  some  goodnight  sleep  :-)

 Good  one  Rohit  !
Eager  to  see  your  DIY  filter.
Do  you  think  you  can  post  some  pictures.A  writeup  on  it  telling  abt  the  procedure/costs  involved  would  be  great.

I  am  ON  too  for  sunday's  meeting  except  something  unforeseen  comes  up.
Mine  is  a  small  planted  tank  and  I  am  making  my  mind  currently  to  upgrade  to  a  4  feeter  planted  tank  Smile

 See  you  see  soon.

PostPosted: Thu Jan 19, 2006 2:33 pm Post subject: Quick description of the DIY filter Reply with quote

After  first  failed  experiment  of  DIY  canister  filter,  I  found  a  large  industrial  grade  blue  drum  with  a  metal  locking  ring(Rs  350).  Now  this  drum  sits  lower  on  the  ground  next  to  tank  and  siphones  water  to  the  bottom  of  the  tank.  Then  a  submersed  filter  lifts  water  back  to  the  tank.  It's  all  working  so  far.  (  2  days  of  testing  ,  no  leaks,  so  siphone  breaks  after  12  hours  of  power  outage)

Here  are  the  layers  of  filteration  medias  in  between.  I  needed  a  cheap  media  as  I  need  it  in  large  quantity

Here  is  how  the  filter  drum  will  look  like

 TOP
 -------------------------------------------------
 Pump  -  Water  outlet
 Clean  water
 -------------------------------------------------
 Sponge  layer
 ------------------------------------------------
large  amout  of  green  garden  net  rolled  up
 ------------------------------------------------
 Pumice  stone  (20  dozens)
 ---------------------------------------------------
 Inlet  pipe  coming  from  top
 ---------------------------------------------------
 BOTTOM

I  will  take  some  pictures  and  sure  post  it  later.
