guys,i  wanted  your  thoughts  about  on  who  do  you  think  that  the  most  deserving  cichlid  parent  is?..i  know  that  all  cichlids  are  excellent  parents, but  unless  you  witness  how  a  cichlid  defends  her  young, you  would  never  come  to  know..
so  guys, whom  do  you  think  should  be  the  best  parent  among  cichlids..please  feel  free  to  share  your  experiences..you  may  also  share  any  pics  if  you  like
my  greatest  moment  in  myy  hobby  came  when  my  pair  of  green  terror  spawned..it  was  indeed  a  delight  to  watch  them  care  for  their  young..i  am  attaching  a  video  of  the  pair..tell  me  what  do  you  all  think..
 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_z7vIRwJ3O0
my  green  severums  also  bred..the  link
 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M5QM_8Tjy7k
finally  my  pair  of  unlucky  convicts  laying  eggs  (they  bred  4  times, both  being  females  no  fertilization  took  place   Sad   )

I  have  a  parrot  fish  pair,Before  few  days  my  parrot  fish  spawn  they  care  their  eggs  very  nicely.  They  injured  some  of  my  fishes.  They  had  not  any  fish  near  their  eggs.  But  their  eggs  not  hatched  because  they  are  hybrid  fishes.

So  I  think  if  their  eggs  hatched  they  should  be  good  parents.  Know  I  bought  a  Gold  Severum  Pair.  I  see  some  videos  on  net  that  they  are  also  a  Good  Parents.

but  yes,i  have  heard  that  they  are  also  excellent  parents..

it  totally  depends  on  what  kind  of  environment  the  fishes  are  kept,
they  will  breed  if  given  proper  conditions  but  will  at  the  same  time  be  timid,
i  had  2  pairs  of  convicts  in  different  tanks,
one  pair  2"  sized  was  housed  with  an  8"  oscar,  and  when  the  convict  bred  it  was  hell  loose  on  the  oscar(they  were  in  a  100gal  tank,  2  convicts  and  a  oscar)
the  second  pair  was  in  a  self  tank  and  they  were  so  timid  that  when  i  go  near  the  tank  they  leave  the  eggs  and  run  helter  skelter,
in  my  opinion  the  best  parents(open, substrate  spawners)  are  convicts

hmmm..i  had  recently  seen  a  video  of  convicts  defending  their  young  against  fishes  twice  their  size..it  was  an  incredible  sight  to  watch..but  i  never  managed  to  see  them  defend  their  young  as  my  eggs  never  hatched   Sad  ..
my  male  green  terror  went  beserk  when  i  went  near  their  tank..the  female  however,  always  remained  near  the  fry..
zakk,  did  it  hurt  when  the  ram  bit  you?   Chuckle  ..u  must  have  staryed  away  from  the  tank  after  that  encounter..
any  more  experiences  guys?  it  is  nice  to  hear  from  you  guys  your  encounters  with  this  amazing  and  intelligent  species..

yea  dude!  it  hurt!  i;ve  been  bitten  at  some  time  by  almost  all  my  cichlid  breeding  pairs.  my  Firemouths,  Convicts,  Angels,  Peacocks,  Golden  Saum,  Rams.  the  worst  one  were  the  Golden  Saums.  the  male  would  head  butt  my  hand  charging  from  the  end  of  the  tank  even  though  i  was  at  the  other  end  of  the  tank.

speaking  about  convicts,  when  i  was  living  in  blr,  i  shared  a  house  with  a  fellow  fish  keeper.  he  housed  red  belly  piranas  in  a  90gl  tank.  i  had  a  spawn  of  pink  convicts  i  could  not  offload  my  hands  so  i  though  what  the  hell!  lets  feed  em  to  the  piranas...guess  who  won  the  fight?  i  have  never  see  pirana  run  the  way  they  did  from  a  fish  that  was  under  1/2  the  pirana's  size.  like  my  friend  John  said,  if  these  lil  critter  could  walk,  they  would  put  a  hurting  real  bad  on  an  elephant!  nasty  fish  but  awesome  parents.  you  will  not  see  anything  like  a  convict  hell  bent  on  defending  his  mate  and  fry.

and  these  were  the  same  fish  that  would  run  if  they  saw  me  approach  the  tank  and  hide.
