 Hi  guys,

I  am  on  the  verge  of  introducing  my  fish  friends  to  their  new  tank  (6'length  x  2'width  x  1.5'height),  i  just  needed  some  clarity  on  a  few  points  :

 1.  I  currently  got  1  water  filter  (1200  Ltr/Hr).  This  also  serves  as  a  water  purifier  as  its  got  a  water  intake  pipe.  Is  this  adequate  for  the  tank  ?  I  can  buy  1  more  if  needed.
 2.  The  bottom  of  the  tank  would  have  a  layer  of  large  gravel,  with  few  large  pebbles.  A  few  trees/plants  would  also  be  added,  is  this  ok  ?
 3.  The  water  purifier  (oxygen  pump)  is  110  Ltr/Hr  &  Pressure  =  120mbar.  Its  a  3watt  pump.  Are  both  these  water  purifiers  ok  or  do  i  need  to  get  an  additional  one  ?
 4.  The  aquarium  got  assembled  2  days  back.  It  has  been  filled  with  water  since  yesterday  to  test  the  aquarium  (no  fish  inside).  Tomorrow  this  would  be  emtptied  to  remove  all  residue,  dirt,  etc.  then  it  would  be  refilled  and  my  fish  along  with  the  water  from  their  2'  x  1'  x1.5'  tank  (which  they  are  currently  in),  so  as  to  reduce  the  possibility  of  new  tank  syndrome.  This  way  about  20%  of  the  water  would  be  old  water  and  the  rest  would  be  new  water.  Is  this  method  appropriate  for  the  fish  ?  I  really  dont  want  to  lose  any  they  are  doing  so  fine  right  now.
 5.  My  new  aquarium  setup  would  be  housing  2  Iridium  catfish/sharks,  2  common  goldfish,  2  small  &  2  big  angelfish.  In  a  few  days  time  after  they  get  used  to  their  new  home  i  would  introduce  a  maximum  of  4  more  new  fish.  I  hope  this  is  ok  for  them  ?

I  just  need  to  know  if  this  size  &  setup  is  enough  to  keep  them  comfortable.  However  if  there  is  anything  crucial  that  I  am  missing  out  please  let  me  know,  as  I  would  begin  moving  them  to  their  new  habitat  by  tomorrow  afternoon.
 Thanks.

 Manav.

Did  my  first  batch  of  transfers  yesterday.  Got  the  2  goldfish  introduced  to  the  new  tank.  First  kept  them  in  a  bag  of  the  old  water  then  released  them  into  the  aquarium,  they  been  in  the  new  tank  for  24hrs  now  and  are  doing  good.  Transferred  my  angels  and  sharks  today  in  2  batches  -  First  batch  with  the  angels  together  &  Second  batch  with  the  2  sharks.  Put  the  closed  bag  in  the  aquarium  for  a  while  then  opened  and  released  them.  Used  same  procedure  for  angels  and  sharks.  The  bag  i  used  was  quite  big  so  that  didnt  get  them  stressed  out  too  much.  All  in  all  they  look  good  now  and  more  happy  in  their  new  home   Very Happy
I  however  want  to  get  2  more  goldfiish,  2  more  sharks  and  2  of  those  cleaner/sucker  fish  (Anybody  know  what's  the  exact  name  of  these  fish  ?).  Reason  why  im  getting  2  more  sharks  and  goldfish  is  to  balance  the  species  in  the  tank.

 Hi  Manav

Congrats  for  your  new  tank...  :)

1.What  kind  of  filter  r  u  using.....  is  it  a  internal  filter  or  a  canister...??

2.What  is  the  gravel  that  your  using??...  u  have  mentioned  that  it  is  a  large  gravel....  any  kind  of  large  gravel  will  not  be  suitable  for  plants,  also  plants  would  need  atleast  2-3  watts  per  gallon  of  light  along  with  CO2  and  fertilizers.

3.Before  adding  any  fishes  to  your  tank  just  google  abt  them  and  see  their  compatability....  LFS's  here  in  Gurgaon  sell  cichlids  to  the  customers  without  warning  them  about  their  compatability  so  be  aware.....

4.I  guess  u  have  iridescent  catfish  (http://www.fishlore.com/profile-iridescentshark.htm)  ,  these  fishes  outgrow  any  tank  they  r  housed  in,  i  guess  the  tank  your  size  would  be  sufficient  but  i  would  still  suggest  not  to  keep  them  as  they  will  overshadow  the  rest  of  the  fishes  in  the  tank  by  occupying  the  maximum  space.  Also  they  are  tend  to  get  hysterical  when  frightened  and  dash  madly  around  the  aquarium.

You  can  call  me  anytime  if  you  have  any  problem  with  the  tank,  just  pm  or  call  me.

Thanks  vijendra.  I  have  mentioned  the  following  as  per  your  queries  :

 1.  Filter  is  internal  filter.  Not  using  cannister  as  yet.  (Capacity  is  1200  Ltr/Hr  &  1.2m  HMAX)

 2.  Yes  I  am  currently  using  large  gravel.  I  also  have  some  normal  small  gravel  but  that  is  less  than  20%  of  the  total  gravel.  I  actually  do  not  plan  on  keeping  live  plants  in  the  tank  due  to  maintenance  problems.  If  you  have  experience  with  plants  maybe  you  can   guide  me  here.

 3.  So  far  only  2  species  are  incompatible  in  my  tank  -  Goldfish  &  Angelfish.  But  they  do  not  show  any  aggression  towards  one  another.  If  this  would  become  a  major  issue  in  the  future  i  may  have  to  return  the  goldfish.  Please  suggest.  Also,  what  is  LFS  ?

 4.  Yes  you  are  right  about  the  shark.  I  will  have  to  see  what  I  can  do  about  them.

Problem  is  I  dont  want  to  give  these  goldfish  and  shark  off  as  they  are  doing  very  well  and  are  healthy.  These  aquarium  people  just  hoard  them  like  goods,  there's  no  guarantee  how  long  they  will  survive  there.  If  anyone  is  willing  to  take  them,  and  take  care  of  them  then  im  ok  with  it.

 Hello  People,

I  have  taken  a  video  of  my  new  tank  setup(  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NfcfniX5M3A  ).  Please  have  a  look  and  let  me  know  if  it  meets  the  bare  necessity  for  a  tank.  Also,  i  purposely  kept  it  undercrowded.
And  as  you  can  see  my  little  friends  are  quite  happy,  esp  the  angelfish  Smile  They  eagerly  welcome  anyone  who  comes  close  to  the  tank.  These  guys  are  really  expressive  fellows.

 Hi  Manav

1.For  the  tank  this  size  internal  filters  don't  work  that  well,  you  will  have  to  get  a  canister  (Ehiem  series  are  the  best  bet,  though  a  bit  expensive)

2.Keeping  live  plants  means  a  lot  of  maintenance  and  you  will  have  to  completely  rescape  your  tank.  The  gravel  you  have  is  not  fit  for  live  plants.

3.I  dont  really  think  those  are  goldfishes,  cant  tell  properly  tough  they  look  like  carps.  Movement  is  too  fast  for  a  goldfish.  If  possible  upload  a  closeup  pic  of  the  fish.

Sure.  Here  is  the  link  for  a  closeup  video  of  those  fish......

 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zpPJJVhjo0o

About  the  water  filter  -  Is  there  any  other  alternative  which  is  economical  ?  I  was  thinking  of  getting  1-2  pleco  catfish  (cleaner  fish)  for  maintaining  the  overall  aquarium  health.
