 Hello  Experts,

For  a  tank  like  6'x2'x2'  or  bigger  for  Discus  which  will  be  the  better  option  !!

 2-3  Ehim-2217  filter  or  a  standard  size  sump  !!

Tank  may  not  be  bare  bottom....it  may  be  biotope  type  .....

 Need  expert  advise.....

A  180  Gal.  Discus  tank  is  going  to  look  AWESOME  Smile   (If  this  is  only  for  Discuss,  consider  increasing  the  height  to  30"  and  decreasing  the  width  to  18  inches.)

In  my  opinion,  a  sump  will  be  cheaper  than  even  a  single  Eheim  2217s.

The  types  of  media  (sponges,  activated  charcoal,  etc  etc)  you  use  in  the  sump  will  determine  its  efficacy  compared  the  the  Eheim  2217s.  I  am  sure  there  are  several  experts  here  on  IAH  who  will  guide  you  in  this  aspect.

 Good  luck,
 Sid

I  would  definitely  vote  for  a  sump,  because
No  1.  It  is  quite  economical.
No  2.  It  is  a  pure  DIY  thing  and  lots  of  scope  for  improvement.
