 Hi  guys

My  last  tank  was  a  disaster  due  to  lack  of  maintenance  and  a  very  bad  driftwood  which  got  fungus  and  stuff.

Finally  got  time  and  decided  to  try  Iwagumi.  Went  for  a  walk  and  collected  a  lot  of  road  side  rocks  and  started.

Had  planned  Glossostigma  and  Dwarf  Hair  Grass.  But  did  not  get  Glossostigma  for  a  month  so  planted  Staurogyne  Sp.  But  my  bad  luck  or  something,  its  not  doing  well.  All  the  leaves  are  melting.  :(

Anyways  here  are  my  tank  specifications  -

 Size  -  30"  (L)  x  18"  (H)  x  12"  (D)

 Capacity  -  28  gallons  or  106  litres

Substrate  -  ADA  Aquasoil  Amazonia  II

 Lighting  -  3  x  24W  T5HO  and  1  x  18W  Philips  Trulight

 Filtration  -  Eheim  2213

 CO2  -  Pressurized  2  BPS  on  for  24  hours

 Fertilizers  -  KH2PO4  +  KNO3  for  Macros  and  Microsol  -  B  for  Micro.  Dosing  MgSO4  with  Microsol  -  B

Plants  -  Hairgrass  and  Staurogyne  Sp

And  here  are  some  pics  -

 The  Hardscape  -

Planted  and  Filled  up-  Day  1  -

 After  the  water  cleared  -

 Day  10  -

 Day  30  -

View  of  the  tank  from  the  sofa  -

 Your  suggestions  are  welcomed  :)

 Thank  you.

 Neil

 Hi  Polya,

Nice  looking  scap,  but  I  doubt  the  stones  might  increase  the  hardness  of  the  water.  May  be  M  wrong  but  plz  check  the  water  hardness.  What  is  the  temp.  of  the  water  in  your  aquarium?

Couple  of  months  back  I  have  tried  some  Staurogyne  Sp.  in  my  5ft  tank  and  I  had  face  the  same  issue  like  you  and  to  save  those,  I  had  setup  on  nano  and  I  saw  good  change  in  the  plants.  It  was  doing  good.  Due  to  space  constraints  I  had  to  dispose  the  nano  and  shifted  back  those  Staurogyne  Sp  to  my  5ft  tank.  Sad  Now  again  the  leaves  are  started  melting.  Last  Sunday  I  use  one  Ferka  bottom  capsule  and  hoping  for  a  good  result.

 My  tank  spacs  are  as  below;
 Tank-1:
 5ftX2ftX2ft
 2X54watt  T5  HO,  4X36watt  PLL,
CO2  6pbs  during  photo  period  using  one  reactor  and  one  diffuser,
Dosing:  KH2PO4  and  KNO3  every  alternate  day

 Tank-2  Nano  (disposed)
 18LX9WX12H  inch,
 Light  1X36watt  CFL  +  1X18watt  CFL,
 CO2  2  to3  bps  during  photo  period,
 dosing:  brighty  K  and  step-2

Once  I  get  some  good  result  by  Ferka  bottom  capsule  will  let  you  know.

 @  Kuna

hey  i  don't  think  that  roadside  rocks  increase  the  water  hardness.  because  thats  what  people  on  IAH  recommend  for  planted  tanks.  also,  i  am  using  soft  water  for  the  tank  and  ADA  reduces  the  hardness  of  the  water  (read  this  in  the  ada  manual  i  think).  so  water  hardness  might  not  be  any  problem.

the  temperature  of  water  in  my  tank  is  always  between  28-30  degrees.  cannot  reduce  it  below  28  degrees  whatever  i  do.  tried  using  2  12cm  fans.  they  don't  cool  anywhere  beyond  28  degrees.  just  evaporate  a  lot  of  water  Sad.  heat  in  mumbai  sucks  :(

yeah  tell  me  if  you  get  good  results  with  ferka  bottom  capsule.  but  in  my  case,  the  substrate  is  new.  so  i  think  even  nutrient  level  is  right  or  or  more  than  required.

 lets  see  what  happens

 Hey  Polya,
I  guess  yours  is  a  close  hood  tank,  If  so  then  its  very  difficult  to  reduce  the  temp.  Why  don’t  you  try  open  hood  with  cooling  fan  (Just  a  suggestion).
And  you  are  right,  as  the  soil  is  new  the  nutrient  level  will  be  high...So  here  M  not  sure  why  the  plant  is  rotting   Confused     Confused     Confused

i  tried  the  fan  thing  keeping  the  hood  open.  half  the  tank  gets  open  when  i  open  the  lid.  still  it  does  not  affect  much.  i  get  nothing  less  than  28  degrees.

 Hi  polya,
A  simple  beautiful  lookin  setup  u  have  got.....  Keep  us  updated.  and  yes  if  your  water  doesnt  go  beyond  28  degrees  with  fans  try  replacing  10-20%  water  with  ice  cubes.  it  may  help.  although  m  not  an  expert  with  planted  tanks.try  consulting  it  with  experts  before  implementing.cheers

what  fish  should  i  go  for?

also,  will  CO2  at  2  BPS  for  24  hours  be  safe  for  fish  and  RCS?  or  do  i  need  to  get  a  solenoid  valve?

 Hi,

Nice  setup...  Dwarf  hair  grass  is  looking  very  good....Once  the  Staurogyne  Sp  starts  growing  and  cover  the  entire  surface,  it  will  look  awesome....  Waiting  eagerly  for  that...   Smile
