 Hi  Shelly,

I  dont  think  these  will  be  enough  for  any  kind  of  planted  tank.  Unless  the  plants  are  the  ones  that  would  grow  by  just  diffused  natural  sun  light  that  comes  in  the  home.  However  if  its  a  cichlid  setup,  this  will  provide  a  pretty  cool  effect  with  all  the  rock  work  but  may  not  enhance  the  fish  colours.

 Warm  Regards

I  too  was  wondering  whether  the  wattage  woud  be  sufficient  to  grow  plants  with  as  the  leds  have  very  low  wattage.  The  strips  are  available  here  in  Kol  for  2  yellow  notes  and  a  half  for  5  meters...  Like  Nash  said  it  could  be  used  just  as  a  light  source,  no  more.

I  know  that  the  LED  wattage  is  very  less  in  strip  LED.  But  I  will  see  If  I  can  grow  low  light  plants  in  this  light.  Its  just  an  experiment...  Thumb Up

I  am  planning  to  put  some  3W  LED  in  between  the  LED  strips..  So  all  together,  I  will  get  good  light   Smile   Smile

Again  its  a  trial  and  error  method...

No  heat!!!  Less  Current  consumption!!!   Smile   Smile

It's  hard  to  say  whether  the  light  spectrum  will  be  useful  to  plants  in  any  way.  I'm  more  concerned  about  output  in  the  red  spectrum  here.  I'd  make  sure  to  use  a  reflector  of  some  sort  to  maximize  whatever  is  there

It's  sad  because  even  if  you  are  able  to  grow  stuff  with  these  LEDs,  it  will  be  hard  to  replicate  your  results.  The  LEDs  you  are  using  are  probably  ordered  in  bulk  keeping  price  points  and  availability  in  mind.  The  next  lot  from  china  could  well  be  different  LEDs  with  different  spectral  characteristics...

It's  good  you  are  willing  to  experiment.  As  the  ancient  saying  goes,

"Man  who  doesn't  make  mistakes  learns  nothing"   Chuckle

 Please  keep  us  posted!

Also,  I'm  looking  for  a  moonlight  effect  on  some  of  my  tanks,  and  LED  seems  to  be  a  cheap  option  I  can  use.
How  does  your  tank  look  like  at  night  with  dimmed  output.  Do  you  feel  it  approximates  moonlight  in  any  way?
