 Thanks  much  guys  Smile
 Do  enjoy  sharing  the  pictures  with  fellow  passionate  aquarists!

 Frank,
    That  barb's  a  Puntius  vittatus.  Probably  the  color  was  skewed  due  to  the  flash.

 Abhishek,
    Mother  nature's  the  one  who  rules  Smile

 Suyash,
    That's  not  a  gar,  but  a  Xenentodon  cancila.  Also  commonly  called  a  freshwater  gar/needle  fish...highly  predatory.  Quite  common  in  the  south  indian  rivers

 Here's  what  it  looks  like  in  flesh

 Cheers,

 Nope.  The  barb  is  not  a  Puntius  vittatus.  Looks  like  a  P.  cf.  gelius  because  of  the  caudal  blotch  shape.  The  body/fin  colours  has  been  blurred  due  to  flash.  One  more  difference  is  that  the  dorsal  fin  lacks  a  blotch.

 It  is  intersting  cause  the  first  record  of  P.  gelius  in  south  India  was  from  Chennai.  This  could  be  a  another  record  or  another  closely  associated  fish.

 There  is  one  more  undescribed  fish  in  the  P.  ticto  complex  from  Kalakad  which  looks  a  bit  like  yours  but  with  another  spot  near  the  gills.

 You  can  check  out  the  P.  gelius  from  Chennai  in  the  following  link  http://threatenedtaxa.org/ZooPrintJournal/2010/March/o229826iii10786-787.pdf

 Your  fish  looks  very  intersting  as  it  lacks  the  fin  colours  of  P.  gelius.  Would  have  been  nice  if  you  had  preserved  it  Very Happy

 @Asgard,  welcome  Smile

 @  Hayath,  If  your  fish  had  a  blotch  behind  the  gill  then  it  would  fit  the  identity  of  P.  narayani.  I  now  feel  it  is  more  probable  that  it  is  a  P.narayani    with  the  blotch  near  the  gill  either  faded  due  to  loss  of  scales  or  hidden  by  the  flash.
