I  was  working  on  a  new  tank  for  crystal  red  shrimps  after  careful  thinking  n  making  decision  here  we  go..

A  27  ltr  gross  24  net  with  13  watt  lamp  for  9  hrs  on  timer.
The  Fluval  Substrate  red  bag  is  quite  expensive  used  3  kgs  out  of  4  kgs.
I  have  to  say  gr8  experience  no  rise  in  ammonia  but  its  2  weeks.
Yet  there  is  black  powder  visible  on  leaves.

Plants:  Java  fern,Java  moss  tied  on  driftwood,  flame  moss  tied  on  stainless  steel  wire  mesh  (doesn't  rust  in  water),
An  echinodorus  root  (my  experience  with  this  plant  the  leaves  melt  so  I  remove  then  before  moving)
Limnophila  aromatica  next  to  the  sponge  filter  (BOYU)  Hygrophila  Corymbosa  on  the  right  end
A  bit  of  Taiwan  moss  tied  on  black  sponge  n  held  to  the  wall  with  silicon  sucker.
2  Marimo  moss  balls  saggitaria  subulata  planted  to  the  left  in  front  (not  doing  well)
Echinodorus  Tenellus  planted  to  the  right  side  in  front  seems  fine.   A  Catappa  leaf/Indian  almond  leaf.

This  tank  has  90%  Reverse  Osmosis  water  10%  tap  water  with  dechlorinator  PRIME.
Water  parameters  are  PH  6.6  GH  5  KH  2  Temp.24-25  degrees
Tank  has  been  running  for  2  weeks  well  balanced  no  sudden  changes  in  any  parameter  I  check  once  a  week
with  API  tests  Ammonia  Nitrite  0  Nitrate  is  5  ppm

 I  added  10  Crystal  Red  shrimps  Grade  A  bought  from  a  pvt.breeder  chose  5  young  n  5  matured  shrimps.
After  reading  n  learning  from  others  experience  come  to  this  conclusion  better  to  buy  from  some1  who  breeds
locally  rather  than  buy  from  shops  because  these  shrimps  r  very  stressed  when  they're  imported  which  lead  to
deaths  n  thats  such  a  shame.

Enjoy  the  pictures  I'll  try  to  add  some  more  later  on..  Would  like  to  get  your  feedback  too...

Thnx  a  lot  for  the  +ve  comments

Batman  I  bought  their  food  in  June  (summer)  2010  when  I  tried  CRS  for  the  1st  time  it  was  a  total  disaster.  Sad
Now  its  winter  n  I've  learnt  a  lot  with  experience.  I  have  other  shrimps  too  like  denticulata,  yellow,  blue  pearl,  sakura,  red,  fire  and  black  crystal.  I've  got  cichilds,  guppies,  platies,  ancistruses  L-144  n  others,..  etc....so  I  have  to  keep  diff.  foods  at  home.  Believe  me  shrimps  eat  anything..I  got  these  food  from  other  hobbyists  for  free,  samples  in  shops,  bought  a  few.  Same  with  plants  n  mosses.

For  shrimps  I've  got  Shirakura  n  Mosura  foods,  Ocean  nutrition  incl.frozen  artemia,  blood  worms,  OSI  n  Sera  Spirolina  tablets.  I  use  Prime  conditioner  while  changing  the  water.  Divide  the  food  in  such  a  way  that  a  big  part  is  kept  safely  in  the  freezer  n  the  daily  feed  is  kept  in  an  air  tight  containers  in  the  fridge.  This  way  the  food  stays  fresh  n  safe.  I  keep  enough  food  that  will  last  a  month  in  an  air  tight  container  in  the  fridge.  I  do  the  same  with  fish  food  n  Prime  conditioner  (in  the  fridge  not  freezer).
From  experience  feed  the  shrimp  very  little  (be  stingy)  that  they  finish  in  an  hour  whatever  is  left  remove  it  with  a  net  because  it  deteriorates  your  water  condition.  People  feed  blanched  veges  I  do  not  because  u  have  to  be  extra  careful  when  your  aquarium  is  small  (nano)  the  water  is  to  be  kept  very  clean.
I  have  a  friend  who  keeps  60-70  CRS  in  a  14  ltr  tank  feeds  Shirakura  1  tablet  twice  a  week  changes  30%  water  every  week  thats  it,  healthy  beautiful  shrimps.   Mostly  shrimps  eat  micro-organisms  from  the  plants  therefore  it  is  advised  to  keep  a  well  planted  tank  to  provide  food  for  the  shrimps.
