 Thanks  Beta   Smile  .  You  certain  about  it  being  Erethistes  pusillus?  Madhu  got  a  shipment  of  it  too.  But  these???  Came  separately  packed.

 Hey  man  you  can  keep  a  few  H.jerdonis  with  them.  I  wouldn't  go  for  the  smaller  barbs.  Too  boisterous  IMO  for  the  badids.  All  the  best  with  you  setup   Thumb Up

 Hi,

 I  got  4  "Etroplus  suratensis"  last  Sunday.  I  don’t  know  much  about  their  activity.  Only  thing  I  know  is  that  they  are  brackish  fish.

 I  kept  them  in  a  2  feet  for  the  time  being.  What  will  be  the  best  tank  size  for  them.

 Can  you  guys  suggest  me  about  their  food  habit,  required  water  condition,  Water  temperature,  Light  and  other  things

 And  yes  also  suggest  the  good  tank  mates  for  them.

 Thanks  in  advance

 According  to  fishbase.org  (and  others)
 Hara  jerdoni  =>  Erethistes  jerdoni
 http://www.fishbase.org/Summary/speciesSummary.php?ID=24885&genusname=Erethistes&speciesname=jerdoni

 Hara  hara  =>  Erethistes  hara
 http://www.fishbase.org/Summary/speciesSummary.php?ID=24880&genusname=Erethistes&speciesname=hara

 Erethistes  pusillus  is  not  the  same  as  E.  jerdoni

 Complete  Erethistes  species  list.

 Scientific  Name   Author   Valid  Name   Family   English  Name
 Erethistes  elongata   (Day,  1872)   Conta  conta   Erethistidae   Conta  catfish
 Erethistes  hara   (Hamilton,  1822)   Erethistes  hara   Erethistidae
 Erethistes  horai   (Misra,  1976)   Erethistes  horai   Erethistidae
 Erethistes  jerdoni   (Day,  1870)   Erethistes  jerdoni   Erethistidae
 Erethistes  maesotensis   Kottelat,  1983   Erethistes  maesotensis   Erethistidae
 Erethistes  pusillus   Müller  &  Troschel,  1849   Erethistes  pusillus   Erethistidae
 Erethistes  pussilus   Müller  &  Troschel,  1849   Erethistes  pusillus   Erethistidae
 Erethistes  serratus   (Vishwanath  &  Kosygin,  2000)   Erethistes  serratus   Erethistidae

 so  I  think  Beta  ment  that  the  "Hara"  genus  now  is  called  Erethistes?

 @bengalman;
 I  keep  my  D.  dario  (scarlet  badis)  with  E.  jerdoni,  E.  hara  and  P.  gelius  in  a  60*30*30  54L,  wich  works  fine.
 The  P.  gelius  is  shy  in  my  tank,  added  a  few  T.  albonubes  and  now  they've  lost  their  shyness.

 Nope.  I  meant  that  what  he  has  is  an  Erethistes  pusillus  (Moth  Catfish)  which  is  different  from  Hara  hara/Erethistes  hara

 Which  I  call  "Davy  Jones"

 I've  read  they  can  shed  their  skin,  maybe  that  is  it

 They  are  known  to  shed  their  skin  when  the  water  quality  drops  down.

 Hara  hara  and  Erethistes  pussilus  can  be  differentiated  by  the  nature  of  the  spines  on  the  pectoral  fin  I  think.  That  and  the   shape  of  the  snout.

 Hara  hara  should  be  brown  colored  with  convergent  serrations  on  the  pectoral  spines.  I  can't  make  out  the  spines  with  the  picture  of  course.

 Asgard,  I  feel  your  fish  is  not  H.  hara  or  E.  hara.  The  ocipital  is  reaching  the  dorsal  spine  base.

 The  following  link  may  help.  http://www.scotcat.com/factsheets/hara_hara.htm

 @beta,  if  you  can't  tell  from  my  pictures,  how  did  you  from  mcgokul  picture,  or  did  you  know  by  another  way?
 Do  I  have  hara  or  pusillus,  or  maybe  both?
 On  the  second  last  pic,  the  fish  almost  looks  like  a  big  jerdoni  (no  flesh  on  the  pectoral  fin),  the  fish  on  the  last  pic  has  more  flesh  on  the  pec.  fins.

 @ShovelnoseOk,  I've  read  something  like  that  before,  mine  was  like  this  when  bought,  the  others  I  bought  in  the  same  shop/tank  looked  (still  look)  fine.  I  hope  he/she  will  look  like  the  others  soon.

 @bengalmanThanks!,  Do  start  and  do  post  pictures  plz!

 Interesting.  I  think  these  cats  deserve  a  thread  of  their  own  to  demystify  them.  Thanks  for  the  info  guys.

 @sanak007,  you'll  have  better  info  if  you  start  a  thread  on  E.suratensis.  Also  go  through  the  old  posts  in  the  natives  section.  All  the  best   Thumb Up
