It's  been  almost  ¬†quite  some  time, that  i  wanted  to  keep  Discus. And  at  last  I  did  buy  some...later  i  did  come  to  know  that  i  need  to  work  on  them  more  harder.hence  i  would  request  experts  to  kindly  share  the  following  :

   -  How  to  better  their  colour  ?
   -  How  to  better  their  growth  ?

They  are  5  of  them  between  3.5"  -  3"  in  size  in  a  tank  of  3.5'X1.5'X2'.They  will  be  moving  to  a  4'X2X2.5'  in  the  next  two  weeks.

 Diet  :

   -  Tetra  Bits  :Twice  a  day
   -  Hikari  Bio  Gold  -  Once  a  Day

 WC:

 Alternate  day  -  30%

They  have  come  to  me  from  a  place  where  there  were  hardly  any  interaction, initially  they  used  to  hurdle  up  in  one  place, turning  pitch  black. It's  taken  them  sometime  to  get  accustomed  to  people  being  around, hence  the  stress  mark  i  believe.

Change  water  frequently  and  maintain  temperature  between  28-30  degree  Celsius.  Feed  them  thrice  a  day.

Update  -  As  these  guys  was  really  scared  and  not  moving  around  much.i  thought  of  adding  another  team  member  (who  is  habituated  to  movements  around  him/her)  to  help  shed  their  inhibitions. This  seems  to  have  worked  a  little.

 Advise  requested..

 Auggie,

Your  brown  discus  are  not  looking  happy  at  all.  They  are  stressed  way  too  much  and  their  shape  is  also  not  good.

 Start  following
 1.  Regular  (I  prefer  daily)  WC.  At  this  size,  more  is  better  (have  it  60-70%)
 2.  Maintain  temperature  (make  sure  to  have  new  water  with  same  temperature)
 3.  Make  sure  to  have  new  water  free  from  chlorine
 4.  Clean  the  filter  media  on  weekly  basis

HI  adesh  -  ¬†Frist  of  all  sorry  for  the  late  revert  and  thank  you  for  your  advice, have  started  with  your  advice  and  as  per  guidance  by  few  good  friends/seniors.(  like  Abhi  da  ,Tapas  da  etc)

The  babies  are  growing  ,they  also  recognize  me  very  well...however  they  still  go  dark  whenever  anyone  goes  next  to  tank  and  hurdle  to  one  corner, how  do  i  de-stress  them?.I'm  already  using  salt  in  every  water  change  and  anything  else  that  i  should  be  doing  ?

Current  pics  of  are  shared  for  your  valuable  suggestion.

Hi  Augustine,  thats  a  wonderful  progress.  Till  now  i  was  under  impression  that  you  have  browns  but  those  browns  were  red  melons  in  fact  :D

Anyways,  they  have  started  showing  good  coloration  and  the  shape  is  also  developing  nice.  Fishes  getting  stressed  after  WC  is  normal.  About  fishes  turning  dark  once  someone  is  near  tank,  you  can  try  only  feeding  them  once  they  are  begging  for  food.  This  way  they  will  start  accepting  the  human  presence  and  will  co-relate  it  with  food.

I  suspect  that  Tetrabits  &  Hikari  have  contributed  to  the  red  colouration.
Auggie, which  water  are  you  using  for  WC?Can  you  share  the  type  &  quantity  of  salt  you  use  as  well  as  the  placement  of  the  tank  in  your  house?

@adesh8028  -  Thanks  adesh,i  think  as  swarnendu  said  the  red  coloration  could  be  because  of  tetra  bits, but  they  are  brown  discus  i  believe.
Whenever  I'm  near  the  tank, they  all  come  up  to  me  (as  if  begging  for  food),however  their  body  colour  darken. Will  try  your  suggestions  and  will  share  what  happens  next..

@  Abhi  da  -  thanks  as  always  Smile

@swarnendu  -  I'm  using  corporation  water  which  is  at  least  24  hrs  old.I'm  using  rock  salt  (I  think  it  is  called  shandak  namak,  looks  like  beautiful  quartz  rock  pieces). My  tank  is  place  at  south  west  corner  of  my  hall  room.

Simple  test  to  check  between  two:  When  stressed,  browns  will  have  bars  &  melons  will  show  peppering.

Hi,  A  very  much  strange  thing  is  that,  I  have  one  discus  (already  posted  pics  in  "Shiva  sir  please  help  thread"  http://indianaquariumhobbyist.com/community/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=23085  )  which  is  very  much  simila  to  the  1st  and  second  picture.  I  can  see  stress  bars  as  well  as  peppering.  And  my  discus  is  a  throughback  cross  in  between  turq  and  PB.  It  gets  stress  bars  as  well  as  pepperings  when  stressed.  But  My  discus  is  one  year  old.  The  colouration  is  same  now  also.  But  Auggie's  discus  has  become  reddish  (may  be  due  to  tetra  bits.).  But  where  are  the  stress  bars  then?  Are  they  really  browns  or  crosses  between  turq  and  PB?  Thanks  in  advance.  Experts  please  clear  the  confusion.
