 Hi  folks,

Been  long  posting  a  journal  thread.
I  had  a  no-purpose  3  feet  tank  overloaded  with  all  sorts  of  fishes,  wanted  to  put  it  to  some  good  use.
Removed  all  the  fishes  during  last  week,  and  had  some  plentiful  time  on  hand  with  no  one  at  home  the  whole  day,  yesterday.

Aim  -  To  create  a  simple  low  light,  low  maintenance,  slow  evolving  setup  with  some  good  hardscape,  combining  a  large  open  area  for  fish  to  move  about  at  the  front  and  some  dense  planting  at  the  back.

 Now  lets  see  some  pictures...

All  the  hardscape  material  to  go  in.
Some  black  river  rocks  from  landscaping  rock  store
Driftwood  from  my  old  scape,  Wilderness  Unexplored

 The  void  tank

 Initial  rock  placement

A  couple  of  trial  arrangements(white  balanc  completely  went  wrong  here)

After  filling  some  sand  in  and  before  adding  soil  at  back.

Soil  topped  by  coarse  gravel  at  the  back  and  water  being  poured  in,  couldnt  take  a  decent  shot  with  wet  hands

After  filling  it  up  and  letting  it  settle  down  for  a  while,  took  this  picture  with  right  white  balance

And  for  plants,  waiting  for  last  extreme  month  of  heat  to  move  on,  then  I'll  get  some  crypts.  I  hav  a  couple  of  bunches  of  ferns  and  a  few  anubias  to  go  in  as  well.

Livestock  -  Will  keep  a  few  ruby  barbs  from  my  old  collection,  CAE,  loaches  and  maybe  a  big  bunch  of  rasboras.

 Lets  see  how  it  goes....

A  journal  finally.....  after  a  long  long  time.  Super  scape  buddy.  Very  natural.  But  choose  the  plants  carefully.

Why  to  wait  for  rain.  You  can  add  the  crypts  now  only.

BTW....  from  where  did  you  get  those  rocks  from????  Need  some.

Thanks  a  lot  for  dropping  in  and  posting  your  thoughts!

saadali  wrote  (View  Post):

Thank  you  dr.saab,  but  whats  'the  hamza'?

@Emmanuel,  thanks!  'always'  and  'excellent'...I  doubt  that

@Sai..I  brushed  that  wood  quite  hard  this  time  and  removed  as  much  bark  as  I  could,  thankfully  its  showing  up  some  good  textures  now.
That  was  actually  laterite  gravel  collected  from  Anantagiri  Hills  side.  I  liked  the  darkish  color,  so  washed  off  the  soil  layer  over  them  to  use  as  an  inert  substrate  for  my  previous  non-planted  setup.   This  time  I  used  the  same  as  top  layer.  I  believe  it  also  contains  some  good  bacteria  colony(from  previous  setup)  to  cycle  this  tank  faster.

@Tirtha  da...Those  are  the  same  river  rocks(cobbles)  I  mentioned  on  the  meet  day.  But  not  all  rocks  from  a  pile  of  1000s  are  like  this,  I  tried  my  best  picking  out,  the  most  even  colored,  textured  ones.  Took  quite  a  lot  of  time  to  do  it,  but  those  weird  textures  and  lines  add  a  lot  to  the  detail  of  overall  setup.

I  always  wanted  to  try  something  different  than  twisty  rootwoods  and  textured  rocks(quite  common  these  days),  hence  tried  a  simpler  and  unusual  hardscape  this  time.

Plant  selection,  thats  a  bit  tricky,  but  lets  see.

There  are  two  reasons  for  delaying  it  for  a  month...
1)The  main  concern  is  temperature,  that  setup  is  around  35degC  at  the  moment,  I  dont  think  anything  except  wendtii  would  survive.
2)My  CO2  cylinder  main  valve  is  a  bit  leaky,  want  to  replace  that  first  before  I  add  a  splitter  for  second  tank.  I  am  waiting  for  the  remaining  gas  to  be  utilized,  it'll  get  wasted  once  it  goes  to  the  refiller.
 3)Sourcing  plants  -  need  a  few  c.balansae  and  tropica  and  I  think  a  few  e.tenellus  as  well.
4)Have  to  prep  my  hood  and  add  more  lights
 5)Improve  filtration...

Thats  why  a  longer  process.  I  am  busy  quite  often  so  doing  it  little  by  little  whenever  I  find  time.

@Anand..Initially  I  had  a  plan  for  not  exactly  a  biotope  but  more  likely  an  Asian  theme  setup,  I  am  not  very  staunch  at  this,  but  lets  see  how  things  turn  out.

@Saumya...Thanks  for  the  wishes,  but  I  had  some  CO2  problems  recently  everything  went  upset,   its  recovering  from  that,  but  I  dont  exactly  know  if  it'll  make  it  to  IAPLC  this  year  with  less  than  a  month.  I  hope  it  does...
