Want to buy Sobo Hang on Back Filter WP303H
I am planning to by a Sobo Hang on Back Filter WP303H, As per Indiapetstore it is cheaper also. But never used HOB earlier. If anybody used this HOB earlier please suggest.
Once seen Eheim HOB in the expo in Hyderabad, Want to know both the filters has the same filtration process???
In my 15gal tank already I have one RS electrical power filter, but it is submerged filter and it is taking a lot space inside my small tank and also killing the show. Now using this filter just to get flow inside the tank.
Not getting this SOBO HOB in any store in Hyderabad. If anybody has please PM the price. In same range if anybody can suggest any other brand!!! |

Why is this under Lighting for Planted forum?
Remember that HOB filters will require you to modify your hood if it does not fit in the space. |

Your tank is approx 55-60 Litres, Look for a filtration which is 3-5 times the tank volume, Overfiltration is always better than lower filtration. Going by 5 times the volume and also compensating for loss of flow due to media, You will need a Filter in the range of 400-500 L/H. Have PM'd you details for the same. |

@Seetharam
You sent me the PM instead of parthapratim22. I have forwarded it to him
It is always a good idea to have more filtration than less but at the same time I feel it is important to consider how much flow / current the filter output creates. Now I know internal filters can create strong currents if you choose to get extra filtration which is problem for some fishes that do not enjoy high flow and will always tend to hang around the calmer areas of the tank.
I am not sure how much of this is a problem in HOB since I have not used one in my tank as my hood couldn't fit the one I bought. Bummer |

Hey Ranjith
Thanks
HOB its easy to control the flow compared to Internal Filters. If you fill the tank till the brim where the HOB water outlet is, The flow will be directed as ripples on the surface of the water. Its a problem if the water level dips considerably below this as it will act like a waterfall with the flow hitting the bottom of the tank.
But given the fact that you can put Bio Media in the HOB chamber its a much better option compared to Internal Filters. |

Thanks Ranjit for reminding me the essential point...tank hood is almost 10cm lifted and glass edge is not occupied fully so I think now it won't be a problem...
@Jack that was a filter, because what I have seen in the expo, there was two channels, one was covered-sucking the water from the tank and the other one was open and from that water was coming into the tank....and it was attached at the back glass edge.
@Seetharam- thanks learnt new information from your post. Submerged filter is also giving the same output but problem is it is killing the show. Also thanks for alternative items in the PM.
What I have seen in IPS having following specifications.
It is 5w and Capacity 280 L/H and another one is 10w and Capacity 500 L/H, price range is showing almost same. |

Yes HOB will definitely give more options in usable filter media.
280 LPH will be just sufficient for your tank. To be on the safer side go for the 500 LPH one which will be more than enough. |
