 Hi  All

I  have  been  bitten  by  the  Marine  Bug  and  after  having  achieved  a  good  high  on  Nature  Aquariums  would  like  to  try  my  hand  at  Marine  and  hopefully  achieve  a  high  here  as  well.  Now  to  start  off  i  am  pretty  much  next  to  nill  in  terms  of  knowledge  on  Marine  Aquariums.  Have  been  reading  up  for  a  long  time  now  and  decided  to  go  ahead.

Given  that  Marine  Tanks  would  have  a  higher  cost  factor  i  will  keeping  this  tank  considerably  small,  but  i  dont  want  to  compromise  on  equipment  a  lot.  So  will  start  slow  and  steady,  put  all  the  stuff  together  and  move  forward.  So  far  below  is  what  i  have  charted  out,  So  any  inputs  from  experts  would  be  great.

 Tank:  24L  x  24W  x  12H  –  Extra  Clear  Glass  on  3  Viewing  Sides.

 Cabinet:  24L  x  24W  x  36H  (Will  have  a  Inbuilt  Timer  Unit  +  Small  Exhaust  Fan)

 Filtration:  Sump  +  Refugium

 Reference:  http://i207.photobucket.com/albums/bb254/Rehype/sump.jpg

 Size:   20L  x  15W  x  15  H

Additional  Equipments:  Skimmer,  Heater,  Return  Pump  (Need  Inputs  on  Brand/Type/Capacity  for  these)

Substrate:  Fine  Aragonite  Sand  (Any  recommended  Brand?)

Hardscape:  MMLR  ?  Any  other  suggestions

 Lighting:  Undecided   (Recommendations)

 Salt  Mix:  (Any  recommended  Brand?)

Other  Equipments:  Wave  Maker  (Any  recommended  Brand/Capacity/Numbers?)

Inputs/Recommendations/Help  from  Marine  Experts  needed  here  .......  Thanks  in  Advance

I'm  not  sure  about  the  temperature  variation  in  Bangalore,  but  if  the  water  temp  goes  go  above  26C  during  any  part  of  the  year,  I  suggest  you  do  not  start  the  tank  without  a  chiller.

I  am  also  starting  a  same  size  (26L  X  16W  X  16H)  marine  tank  so  this  will  also  helpful  for  me.
I  am  facing  problems  in  searching  proper  lighting  and  a  little  bit  confused  in  choosing  a  Skimmer.

Are  you  installing  a  Fish  only  tank  or  with  soft  corals?

 Hey  Beta

I  am  planning  to  use  a  Cooling  Fan  and  Heater  in  Tandem  to  keep  temp  Constant.  I  used  to  do  this  for  High  Grade  Crystal  Red  Shrimps  to  maintain  a  constant  temp.  Even  in  peak  summers  have  been  able  to  maintain  the  temp  at  26.

To  be  honest,  I  have  not  read  up  on  livestock  yet,  So  not  sure  what  is  legal  and  what  is  not.  But  evenually  i  would  like  this  tank  to  house  the  best  and  most  colorful  "Legally"  available  livestock

 Hi  Seetharam,

Ah,  you've  obviously  seen  Hype's  Tank  on  RC.  Lovely  dimensions.

Substrate:  I'd  recommend  a  very  shallow  (0.5-1  inch)  subs  of  crushed  coral.  Reason:  The  tank  is  shallow,  and  you'd  probably  have  sandstorms  with  more  powerful  pumps  and  aragonite.

Are  you  going  Open  Top  on  the  tank?

Salt:  Red  sea  coral  pro  is  good,  but  I  find  the  that  alk  and  cal  levels  are  bit  too  high.

Wavemakers:  Tunze  6025-6045/Ecotech  MP10,  perfect,  as  long  as  you're  willing  to  spend.

 Good  luck

 Hi  Seetharam,
Sounds  great.  Been  toying  with  the  idea  myself  since  sometime  now.  So  are  you  going  for  a  FOWLR  or  a  Reef  tank?  Am  eagerly  waiting  for  updates  and  excited  to  see  more  inputs  here.  :)

 All  the  best!!

 Regards,
 Biswadeb

 +1  on  whatever  nonza  said..

However,  if  you  get  hold  off  the  new  Red  Sea  Coral  Pro..its  great  ..

Make  sure  you  have  a  decent  skimmer  ..saves   a  lot  of  headache  ..  The  minmum  being  Reef  Octopus  or  Bubble  Magus  and  better  if  want  to  spill  out  some  money  and  go  for  H&S  ,  ATB  or  even  Bubbleking  or  Deltec..

Lights-  Basically  depends  on  what  you  are  looking  forward  to  keeo  but  reading  youe  post  I  feel  you  won't  need  high  lights  ..  So  go  for  normal  T5  HOs  with  individual  parabolic  reflectors  and  cooling  fans..

 Or  LEDs  of  course..

 Seetharam

You're  gonna  need  a  heater  for  the  winters  and  chiller  for  the  summers.

 24L  x  24  W  x  12H  will  make  a  good  nano.

But  12H  can  be  increased  to  18H  to  have  better  aquascaping.

IMO  Skimmer  &  Chiller  are  the  first  equips  to  get.

You  cannot  succeed  with  heaters  &  cooling  fan.  I  tried  it  out  but  in  vain  .
