Jewels  will  terminate  fry  if  they  feel  the  brood  is  weak.  If  you  think  otherwise,  i  suggest  u  start  harvesting  them  to  a  diff  tank  to  let  them  grow  out.  If  you  do  this,  expect  a  spawn  in  less  than  3  days  again.

 @ZAKK
I  would  love  to  harvest  dude,I  alrdy  have  2  tanks  and  I  have  sepreated  a  few  fry  of  jewel  so  total  3.
It  is  difficult  to  maintain  man.

I  have  observed  that  fry  with  parents  are  growing  faster  compared  to  the  seperated.I  feed  the  same  food  to  all  fry(Hikari  First  bites). What  is  the  reason?
I  think  the  fry  with  parents  are  eating  parent  food  also(Hikari  cichlid  gold). Now  My  fry  are  2weeks  old,
shld  I  start  feeding  live  tubifex  worms?

 Thnx.

Thats  correct,  they  will  grow  better  with  parental  care,

the  parents  will  often  shred  their  food  into  fine  pieces  that  fall  thru  their  gill  slits  ,the  fry  will  eat  this,  fry  are  encouraged  to  eat  better.

Also  there  are  many  tiny  things  that  live  in  all  of  our  tanks  &  morsels  in  gravel  parents  will  often  stir  up  the  gravel  set  these  free  and  the  fry  will  eat  them.  The  fry  eat  better  with  security  of  the  parents.

Fry  of  Hemichromis  are  non  finicky  eaters.  so  i  would  say  go  with  what  suits  you  budget  &  time.
You  will  get  a  yeild  of  about  50%  fry  from  batch  in  about  in  8  weeks.  Fry  do  also  cannibalise  each  other,  nothing  to  worry  about.
Many  Hemichromis  will  take  time  to  parent  properly,  &  might  eat  up  fry  &  eggs  ,  might  take  a  few  rounds  to  get  into  the  role.  Also  if  they  feel  their  brood  is  not  proper  (weak/sick,etc)  they  will  consume  them.  Many  aquarium  trade  bred  jewels  will  have  bad  gene  lineage  &  might  not  have  good  parenting  instincts.  Just  be  patient  I  think  they  will  get  it  right.

Unless  you  are  interested  in   selling  the  fry  once  they  grow  no  need  to  separate  the  fry  soon.  Also  separating  the  entire  fry  might  make  the  parents  aggressive  to  each  other.  So  even  if  you  are  removing  the  fry  keep  a  few  behind.

Hemichromis  are  frequent  &  opportunistic  breeders,  taking  advantage  of  good  conditions  for  fry  &  will  try  and  have  a  large  brood.  If  you  are  not  interested  in  harvesting  the  fry  &  want  to  just  observe  &  experience  their  parenting.  Keep  the  fry  with  them.  When  they  are  about  1cm  u  can  remove  them.  Some  keep  it  longer  till  they  show  slight  colorations  of  their  parents.(about  0.8inches).  To  control  &  reduce  their  breeding  cycle,  you  need  to  reduce  their  optimum  Breeding  conditions.
Things  that  have  worked  for  many  are  reduction  in  temperature,  ideal  is  23c-27c,  lower  it  &  they  will  avoid  breeding.  Reduction  in  the  frequency  that  you  give   food,  also  helps.  But  like  Convicts  you  should  have  your  hands  full  for  sometime.  Chuckle

 All  the  best!

(ps:  I  will  PM  u  some  write-ups  that  will  help  you  in  understanding  better,  TC)

 Hi,  Sanket,

Mostly  bits  &  pieces  of  information  collected  after  the  1st  pair  bred  in  my  tank.  At  the  that  time  i  was  interested  in  Oscars  (my  1st  cichlid  love),  I  had  bought  2  pair  Tigers  &  1  pair  Lemons,  this  is  way  back  1999.I  had  60  x  30x  24  inches  tank.  I  was  fairly  new  to  this.  I  have  kept  tanks  before  but  no  cichlids.
Then  to  fill  up  space  i  bought  varieties  i  saw  in  LFS.  Just  to  fill  the  volume.  I  had  a  Nandopsis  salvini,  2  Monodactylus  sebae,  1pr  jewel,  among  others.

The  water  parameters  where  bad,  I  had  just  one  sponge  filter  then,  I  was  busy  with  work  &  water  changes  where  poor.  But  still  these  guys  Bred  in  my  tank,  i  saw  the  wrigglers  one  day  &  was  surprised.  As  usual  i  went  back  to  the  LFS  &  he  told  me  a  lot  of  vague  stuff,  &  was  trying  to  sell  me  another  tank.  I  couldn't  afford  that  then,  so  thought  let  them  be.  I  fell  sick  with  viral  fever  around  then,  so  sitting  at  home  I  started  observing  them.  Thats  when  i  started  making  many  observations  &  how  parenting  they  where.  I  didn't  put  any  food  for  the  fry,  but  the  parents  took  care.  Yeah,  but  i  lost  a  lot  of  fry,  end  of  one  months  I  was  left  with  3  juveniles.  I  think  there  was  to  begin  with  about  150  or  so  wrigglers.

They  did  breed  again,  &  thats  when  i  went  on  to  web  cafe  &  started  inquiring,  many  info.  was  passed  on  to  me  from  members  in  a  forum,  also  read  quite  few  write-ups  on  them.  I  even  took  videos  of  them  parenting  but  have  lost  them.  They  even  stood  up  to  the  oscars  &  the  Nandopsis  managuensis  (Jaguar  cichlid).  It  was  good  experience  into  their  parenting.
I  eventually  started  giving  the  babies  to  the  LFS  for  free.  But  they  bred  4  times  in  my  community  tank,  and  eventually  i  had  15  kids.  I  gave  all  to  the  LFS.  But  they  where  a  memorable  pair.

I  have  sent  you  the  PM,  articles  &  forum  where  i  got  info  on  them.

So  just  read  &  note  your  experiences,  thats  all
