 Hi  guys,

I  came  across  an  interesting  variant  of  Barilius  bakeri,  speculated  to  be  a  new  species.

 Barilius  sp  1

Barilius  sp  2

I  had  a  very  similar  one  from  an  LFS.  My  initial  search  came  up  with  a  few  seniors  who  also  had  this  variant,  but  again  from  LFS.

This  is  the  fish  am  looking  for.  Any  information  leading  to  the  capture  of  this  individual  will  be  appreciated  Smile

 Marc,

Very  interesting.  But  why  is  it  considered  a  new  variant?  Any  keys?

BTW,  I  have  not  yet  ID'ied  my  Barilius  except  one,  The  B.  bendelesis  Crying or Very sad

 Regards,

Ha  ha  ha...it  was  claimed  to  be  a  new  species.  I  called  it  a  variant  cause  there  were  no  keys   Chuckle

The  B.  bakeri  I  have  collected  till  now  had  only  white  tipped  fins.  This  one  I  got  from  Balaji,  was  from  an  LFS  had  bright  orange  fins.

This  same  fish  appeared  in  a  few  web  portals  claiming  to  be  new  species......so  now  am  hunting  for  more  specimens  to  check  the  claim  out   Very Happy
