 Hi  all,

Have  been  following  the  breeding  and  development  of  the  Pinoy  strain  of  angel  fish  by  the  breeder  Ken  Kennedey  in  the  phillipines,  but  have  yet  to  see  a  single  fish  with  that  strain  either  in  Mumbai,  or  in  the  UAE  where  I  currently  live.

Have  any  of  you  seen  these  angels  in  Mumbai/  India??   There  are  truly  very  beautiful  angels.

If  you  don't  know  what  they  look  like,  do  a  search  on  youtube,  there  are  a  lot  of  great  videos.

 Regards,

 Farhad.

i  have  an  angelfish  that  has  green  iridescence  one  third  of  the  body  at  least.  i  think  ken's  angelfish  might  be  being  used  for  breeding  in  India.  But  no  where  can  u  see  the  same  undiluted  quality  as  ken's  angelfish.  I  have  all  his  photos  on  flikr  and  elsehwere,  on  angelfishkisses,  angelfishplus  etc.

only  a  matter  of  time  before  these  angelfish  change  the  look  of  angelfish  all  over  the  globe!

yeah,  but  from  what  I  can  tell,  even  after  3-4  years  after  the  first  ones  have  been  developed,  these  fish  are  being  sold  only  in  select  stores  in  the  US.

I  agree  it  would  take  about  a  dozen  or  so  juveniles  from  different  pairs  in  the  right  hands  for  them  to  be  more  widely  available,  but  what  surprises  me  is  that  such  a  beautiful  fish  (and  its  variants)  has  been  under  what  appears  to  be  tight  control  for  so  long...

i  think  we  shouldn't  wait  for  another  person  to  take  the  initiative,  typical  indian  habit.  we  have  many  hobbyists  on  this  site  who  are  in  the  US.  why  don't  we  ask  one  of  them  to  just  buy  some  angels  and  get  them  here?

angels  are  proflic,  my  greenish  angelfish  is  a  male  and  i  hav  paired  him  up.  they  lay  eggs  every  2  weeks  or  so.  but  since  the  female  has  no  green  iridescence  like  him,  i  think  i  will  need  to  breed  a  lot  of  juveniles  before  i  find  a  green  one  like  him.  no  such  space.  one  lot  of  a  hundred  juveniles  needs  several  tanks  in  less  than  a  month,  so  i  would  rather  start  with  TWO  green  irdescence  angelfish  rather  than  one.

 Romi,

I  am  originally  from  Bombay,  and  visit  there  1-2  times  a  year.   I  live  and  work  in  Dubai.

Exchanging  the  juveniles  is  a  great  idea,  but  may  be  logistically  difficult...  Smile

Nonetheless,  I  am  trying  hard  both  here  and  through  my  contacts  in  India  to  source  the  pinoys.

Further  to  your  post  below,  can  you  post  an  image  of  the  fish  with  the  green  irridiscence?   My  point  with  the  Pinoys  is  that  since  they  already  exist,  and  that  too  in  a  very  pretty  form  (and  true  breeding),  we  should  be  using  those  as  a  springboard  for  further  development  rather  than  trying  to  reinvent  the  pinoy  wheel...  of  course  beggers  aren't  choosers,  and  in  the  absence  of  the  broodstock,  one  has  to  try  and  create  their  own.   I  am  currrently  growing  out  10  assorted  angels  in  a  100  gallon  with  some  discus,  as  a  break  from  my  green  terrors.

 Farhad.

p.s.   Am  trying  real  hard  to  source  a  starter  culture  of  Grindal  worms.   Will  happily  pay  the  price  for  the  culture  and  courier  if  anybody  is  reading  this  and  can  help.

 @farhad

so  u  have  the  angels  in  Dubai?

dubai  should  have  fish  from  the  US,  arent  they  fairly  liberal  importers?   Angels  are  the  commonest  cichlids  because  most  of  them  can  adjust  to  community  tanks  within  limits.  they  breed  well  too.

i  have  a  photo  of  my  green  iridescence  angelfish  but  i  dont  know  how  to  make  the  pic  itself  appear.  i  have  uploded  pics  of  micro  tubifex  worms  and  white  worms  (a  cool  temp  loving  relative  of  grindal  worms)  on  flikr.com,  i  am  tired  of  posting  their  urls  here  only.  i  cant  figure  out  advice  i  get  on  how  to  make  the  pic  appear  right  here,  instead  of  its  lame  url.  could  someone  explain  it  in  layman's  language?

the  green  iridescense  does  not  photograph  so  well,  but  it  is  still  visible.

 Romi,

do  you  have  a  grindal  worm  culture  you  could  share?   you  could  put  it  in  a  small  envelope  and  courier  to  me.

I  will  gladly  pay  associated  costs.

Oh,  and  unfortunately  i'll  say  that  the  pet  trade  here  is  SIGNIFICANTLY  less  developed  than  that  found  in  the  say  the  indian  metros,  both  in  terms  of  availability  and  knowledge.   In  fact  I  regularly  buy  stuff  from  the  LFS  in  mumbai  (usually  Nautilus)  and  take  back  to  dubai.   Last  trip  my  wife  smuggled  in  Rs.  30  worth  of  daphnia,  4  whiptail  catfish  and  6  packs  of  FD  tubifex...  lol

All  the  fish  here  is  grade  B,C,D  from  Thailand,  malaysia  and  occassionally  singapore.

 Farhad.

i  lost  my  grindals  partly  due  to  carelessness.  .  it  isnt  that  grindals  are  more  trouble,  just  that  the  microtubifex  are  even  easier  to  keep  being  so  resistant  to  heat.  i  wish  i  could  get  them  again  but  no  one  in  delhi  has  them.  i  also  found  white  worms  in  my  own  yard,  but  they  do  not  survive  the  summers.

delhi  has  awful  heat  in  the  summers.

if  u  click  on  this  link,  u  will  go  to  the  live  worm  thread,  there  u  can  find  guys  in  mumbai  itself  who  have  grindal  worms.

go  to  the  first  page  of  the  thread.

here  are  the  urls  of  my  green  iridescence  angelfish,  image  quality  is  not  much,  cloudy  water.  but  i  hope  it  isn't  too  difficult  to  make  out.

if  you  think  it  is  worth  it,  please  do  me  a  favour  and  repost  the  urls  in  a  way  that  will  allow  them  to  display  directly  in  this  thread.
