I  once  read  a  post  in  which  Trevor  suggested  using  a  guitar  string  to  cut  through  the  silicon  as  it  can  slip  in  between  the  edges  of  the  glass.

I  have  personally  used  a  razor  blade  (from  use  and  throw  razors.  That  blade  is  really  sharp  and  very  thin  ),  as  suggested  by  Shelly  -  but  that  was  for  a  6  mm  glass.  .
It  is  pretty  risky  and  difficult  to  make  it  work  with  a  12mm  thick  glass.

guitar  strings.  enuf  said.  will  slice  through  the  silicon  like  a  knife  through  butter.  ask  your  local  guitar  shop  or  your  guitarist  friends  for  the  bottom  E  string.  brand  new  one  is  like  under  20  bucks.

Try  using  paper  cutter  (some  thing  like  this:  http://www.100-gift.com/custom_product/181/2391-1/Paper-Cutter-42005-74931.html  )
I  have  personally  used  it  for  my  4ft  aquarium  (10mm  glass).
