Just  you  can  go  for  a  50-60%  water  change  .if  you  are  able  to  do  70  to  80  %  the  discus  will  be  more  happy.  But  as  from  experiences  big  water  change  in  small  tank  will  stress  the  small  discus  .but  i  don't  know  all  others  experience  the  same.so   i  would  like  to  tell  u  to  do  a  50-  60  %  change  until  any  suggestion  from  experts

 Hi  All,
I  noticed  a  thick  layer  of  dirt  at  the  inner  edges  of  my  discus  tank  (both  2ft  tank  and  1  ft  cube).  Tried  to  clean  it  with  a  scrubber.  The  dirt  came  easily.  Very Happy

But  had  a  nasty  smell  Shocked   Shocked  .  Then  I  checked  the  smell  of  the  tank   and  water  tub...  Literally  felt  like  vomiting..
I  noticed  the  same  smell  for  my  betta  tanks  also.
I  used  to  fed  them  frozen  artemia  and  Tetra  bits.
I'm  pretty  sure  that  with  tetra  bits  we  wont  get  that  kind  of  smell,  I  think  the  culprit  is  artemia.

Have  anyone  encountered  the  same  problem?
Is  there  anything  to  get  rid  of  that  smell??

 Please  advice..

Same  pblm  arrised  for  me  before.i  used  tetrabits  and  biogold  .one  day  i  used  only  tetrabits  for  discus  and  avoid  biogold  and  noticed  that  the  smell  reduced.next  day  i  used  only  biogold  and  seems  that  the  smell  araised  again.so  now  i  feed  biogold  only  once  a  day  and  now  the  smell  problem  is  wipe  out.the  small  left  over  particles  of  biogold  was  the  problem.
Now  your  pblm  may  due  to  the  left  over  artimia.many  of  the  breaders  will  do  a  water  change  after  feeding  of  live  artimia  because  artimia  cause  water  dirty.
So  make  sure  to  clean  the  water  after  water  change.

Also  i  heard  that  the  discus  plage  hit  tank  have  a  dirty  smell  because  of  the  production  of  excess  of  mucus  on  discus  body.

.try  only  with  tetrabits  and  update  us.  It  wii  be  great  if  you  tell  about  the  filters, filter  mediums  and  other  decorations

To  avoid  bad  smell  in  discus  tank  ,
 1)  You  need  to  keep  them  in  bigger  tanks  ,  in  smaller  tank  the  water  pollutes  fast  due  to  less  water  volume  .
 2)  If  feeding  animal  heart  ,  you  need  to  do  good  WC  daily  .
 3)  Over  feeding  of  animal  heart  or  frozen  artemia  will  pollute  the  water  more  .
 4)  There  should  not  be  left  over  of  any  food  in  the  tank  at  night  .
 5)  You  need  to  clean  the  bottom  and  side  glasses  of  the  tank  atleast  twice  a  week  .
 6)  Don't  over  crowd  the  tank  .
 7)  try  to  put  good  sponge  filter  .
Cool  Albino  Bristle  nose  is  good  option  .
 9)  Don't  neglect  the  tank  ,  you  need  to  keep  the  tank  clean  .

 Thanks

@Ratheesh  :  I  will  feed  only  tetra  bits  for  a  few  days  .
I  have  kept  it  in  BB  tank  with  no  decorations.  Filteration  -  bio  foam  (sponge  filter).
Is  this  sufficient  or  should  I  add  a  any  decorations.
Regarding  filtration  should  I  add  a  submersible  filter.

@  Discusolic  :  Thanks  you  Shiva  sir,  for  your  suggestions.
I'm  doing  50%  WC  change  daily.
Cleaning  of  side  and  bottom  glass  -  I  was  doing  it  very  rarely,  but  now  I'll  do  it  twice  a  week.

I'm  using  a  sponge  filter  sir.
Does  the  albino  bristle  nose  eat  all  the  food  left  overs?

 Thanks,

ABN  eats  what  settles  at  the  bottom  and  any  layers  on  glasses  ,   but   any  left  over  in  tank  means  you  are  over  feeding  your  discus  .
Pl  ensure  you  quarantine  them  before  introducing  them  in  to  discus  tank  .

 Thank  you  Shiva  Sir,
Every  time  when  I  feed  them,  I  think  they  will  be  expecting  for  live  food.  If  I  feed  live  food  they  start  eating  nicely  otherwise  if  I  feed  them  tetra  bits,  after  a  few  minutes  they  will  start  eating  slowly.
So,  I  feed  more  so  that  they  eat  properly.
Normally,  within  how  many  minutes  should  the  discus  eat  the  food  so  that  the  remaining  food  can  be  treated  as  overfed  food?
