 Hi  Sandeep,

Must  have  planned  n  got  lot  of  things  shipped  to  Mathura  before  starting  your  ADA  tank.
Remember  reading  a  thread  by  you  in  which  you  complained  about  unavailability  of  plants  there.

 here  are  my  2  cents.

 *  Lights  :  What  kind  are  they?  CFL/PLL?  For  a  height  of  18"  CFL  might  not  be  a  very  good  option.  You  might  have  to  replace  them

 *  Lighting  period  :  Decrease  the  lighting  period.  Typically,  please  start  with  3-4  hours  a  day  and  increase  it  by  an  hour  every  week.  After  about  3  weeks,  you  can  jump  to  7-8  depending  how  your  tank  is  shaping  up.

 *  Flora  :  I  don't  know  about  other  plants  but  the  lighting  is  much  lower  than  what  glosso  requires.  At  best  you  can  have  them  grow  tall,  if  at  all  they  grow.

 *  Water  change  regime  :  It  is  ok,  but  in  my  experience  if  you  can  do  like  90%  changes  twice  a  week,  you  can  rid  your  tank  of  excessive  nutrients  and  lower  ammonia.  I  did  that  and  never  faces  alage  issues.  Not  even  once.

My  suggestion  would  be  to  not  to  doze  any  nutrients  for  at  least  a  month.

I  feel  the  plant  density  is  very  less.  Its  all  the  more  important  with  ADA  substrate  to  plant  as  densely.  Try  to  get  any  sort  of  stem/floating  plants  available  locally  and  simply  drop  them  in  your  tank.
It  will  help  control  excessive  nutrients  and  algae  issues  a  great  deal!

 Hope  it  helps.

 Hi  Sandeep
Its  good  to  know  that  you  are  making  another  planted  tank  I  should  tell  you  what  i  did  when  i  started  my  first  planted  in  Agra  n  doing  well.
I  know  you  must  do  all  this  thing  n  ya  final  decision  is  yours   Thumb Up

 #  light  put  2pll  florescent  tube(36w)  in  your  tank  ..earlier  stage  20  hrs  because  glloso  needs  lot  of  light.  then  later  10hr  after  switching  off  the  light  give  aeration  till  the  light  is  on..
 #  Co2  emence  don't  worry  3,,,4   p/s,  when  light  is  off  co2  should  be  off.
 #  Fertilizer  (K)potassium  is  necessary

20  hours????  You  sure?  Have  never  grown  glosso  but  never  heard  of  anyone  doing  this  before  either!?

When  lights  are  off  people  switch  off  to  save  Co2  and  to  ensure  that  Co2  levels  dont  rise  and  affect  fishes.  That  is  all.  It  is  not  must  for  you  to  do  it.

There  are  2  cfl  of  32  w  each,  switched  one  32w  to  20w  after  apperance  of  algae.  Cannot  switch  to  pll  as  hood  is  configured  for  cfl.
I  don't  think  lights  are  less  for  glosso,  it  is  3.7  w/g  for  now,  later  I  will  be  adding  one  more  32  w,  it  will  bring  up  to  96w  which  will  be  nearly  5w/g.
 I  can  speed  up  w/c.
Plants  are  planted  densly  on  left  side  of  driftwood,  the  right  side  is  for  glosso  to  grow.
I  have  already  added  more  plants  since  this  snap  was  taken.

20hrs  of  lighting  will  most  proabably  kill  plants,  they  cannot  control  their  photosynthesis  and  will  burn  out.
like  fish  plants  also  need  light  &  dark  phases,  a  part  of  photosynthesis  is  carried  out  a  night  it  is  called  dark  reaction.
Glosso  is  a  high  light  plant  but  it  does  not  mean  that  it  needs  longer  hours  pf  photo  period,  it  needs  higher  wattage  of  lights

I  am  sure  that  you  must  have  spent  a  lot  of  effort  to  get  all  this  stuff  assembled  in  Mathura   Thumb Up

 Couple  of  suggestions.
 I  would  agree  with  the  observation  that  you  need  more  plants.  Get  some  temporary  stuff  Like  Rotala  that  will  grow  fast  and  that  you  can  get  rid  of  once  the  tank  stablizes  {I  note  that  you  have  said  that  you  added  plats,  that  the  right  way  to  go}
You  have  a  very  abrupt  transition  from  the  Gloss  to  the  Ammania,  you  might  want  tu  place  something  at  the  background  on  the  Rt  side.  All  I  can  think  off  right  now  is  Blyxa.

As  for  the  twenty  hour  light  periods   ROFL

The  only  vacant  place  I  have  left  is  right  side  of  the  tank.
I  wanted  to  have  a  wall  to  wall  glosso  carpet,  but  maybe  I  hit  too  high.  Chuckle
I  was  aiming  for  a  big  hygrophilla  plant  in  left  corner,  ammania  in  midground,  more  stem  plants  on  left  and  just  a  glosso  carpet  on  entire  right  side  of  the  tank.
Now  I  am  thinking  of  putting  some  stem  plant  in  the  righ  side  also,  and  take  them  out  at  a  later  point.

Now  if  i  reduce  the  photo  period  to  say  6  hrs,  would  it  help.

 I  am  attaching  a  FTS

I  am  sure  that  you  must  have  spent  a  lot  of  effort  to  get  all  this  stuff  assembled  in  Mathura   Thumb Up

The  only  time  I  have  put  that  much  effort  was  while  clearing  my  CA  exams.  Very Happy

 Couple  of  suggestions.
 I  would  agree  with  the  observation  that  you  need  more  plants.  Get  some  temporary  stuff  Like  Rotala  that  will  grow  fast  and  that  you  can  get  rid  of  once  the  tank  stablizes  {I  note  that  you  have  said  that  you  added  plats,  that  the  right  way  to  go}
You  have  a  very  abrupt  transition  from  the  Gloss  to  the  Ammania,  you  might  want  tu  place  something  at  the  background  on  the  Rt  side.  All  I  can  think  off  right  now  is  Blyxa.

Don't  keep  ON  lighting  more  than  8  hours  per  day  otherwise  you  will  have  a  algae  bloom.

is  that  not  a  oversize  filter  for  such  tank  ?

Yes,  but  overfilteration  never  hurts,  the  spary  bar  is  submerged  and  turned  towards  back  glass,  this  has  cut  down  flow  of  water  in  the  tank
