PostPosted: Mon Nov 14, 2011 1:20 am Post subject: Re: My new 250 ltrs aquascape - now 5 months old Reply with quote

 Hi  All

This  is  my  tank  now  after  5  months.

After  recent  unfortunate  incident  of  loosing  all  my  fishes  due  to  CO2  surge.  I  decided  to  go  majorly  with   Tetra  variety  only.

Now  I  have  Cardinals,  Red  eye  tetra,  Glowlight  tetra  ,  few  fries  of  Endler  guppies  and  platy,  otocinclus  ,  red  cherry  shrimps.

One  kg  of  C02  cylinder  at  3-4  bps..dint  knew  it  would  last  for  more  then  two  months  now  and  still  enough  Co2  left  for  another  2  months   Smile

After  the  loss  of  fishes,  there  was  an  attack  of  brown  and  black  algae.

After  much  deliberation,  studying  a  lot  of  posts  on  IAH  and  guidance  from  fellow  hobbyists  ,  I  decided  to  move  ahead  with  use  of  Glut.  Now  I  am  dosing  2  ml  of  25%  glut  every  alternate  day.

Result  -  Brown  aglae  has  all  but  vanished  and  persistent  black  algae  is  fighting  a  loosing  but  hard  battle.  Now  I  am  spot  dosing  glut  on  black  algae.  I  hope  glut   removes  it  completely.  As  on  now  black  Algae  is  only  of  Anubias  nana  and  Anubias  gold.

I  installed  a  simple  4  inches  fan  on  top  of  hood  to  exhaust  out  hot  air  due  use  of  CFL(  200  watts  at  3.5  wpg)  .  Bought  a  Boyu  fan  and  it  has  dropped  temp  of  water  to  about  26-27  degrees.  Though  water  loss  due  to  evaporation  was  about  one  inches  in  just  3  days!!!

Currently  using  locally  made  liquid   fert  dosing  bought  from  Nitesh  Patel  of  Affable  Aquarium  in  Ville  Parle.  By  the  way  ,  if  any  fellow  aquarist  in  Mumbai  wants  to  visit  Affable  ,  do  visit  it.  His  tanks  are  amazing  and  if  entered  in  IAPLC  or  some  other  contest  ,  definetaly  they  will  be  ranked  much  much  higher.

I  am  using  this  liquid  fert  (  basically  macros)  one  and  half  cup  of  Pet  bottle  of  Coke  every  alternate  day  and  results  are  good.  Though  I  am  yet  to  use  any  fert  for  micros.

 Below  are  the  pics.

Guidance  and  critique  most  welcome  as  always   Smile

 Regards

 Sanjay  Dubey

@  Jaival  -  Thanx  Smile  ..  SAE  were  not  available  in  Mumbai  .  Otto  did  a  good  job  in  controlling  brown  algae.  Even  Yamato  shrimps  are  not  available  in  Mumbai  since  more  then  a  month  now.

@  Scorpio...  Thanx  buddy..  Pls  suggest  what  plants  would  look  nice  with  above  setup.  I  have  Blyxia  Japonia  3  plants  on  right  side  which  are  growing  a  bit.  I  will  propogate  these  plants  and  plant  them  further.

 Regards

Congrats  on  getting  rid  of  the  algae  except  for  a  little  bit  of  black  Algae.

Good  looking  tank  overall  yes  do  add  some  foreground  plants  my  personal  choice  CHAIN  AMAZON/PIGMI  AMAZON  but  hold  on  till  you  stop  using  Glut  as  these  plants  get  affected.

 Thanx  Thuds  :)

Actually  I  ripped  off  all  the  pigmy  and  chain  amazonia  as  they  were  getting  too  much  in  quantity  to  handle.  Also  they  started  hiding  star  grass  at  they  look  almost  the  same  .

Can  you  pls  suggest  more  plants.

 Regards

 Hi  Sanjay,

Your  other  choice  is  HEMIANTHUS  CUBA  as  you  have  pusserised  CO2  and  if  I  remember  correctly  you  are  dosing  PMDD.

there  is  also  this  very  fine  type  of  echinodorus  tenellus,  it  will  look  awesome  in  your  tank  scorpio  rajiv  has  it.  If  u  google  red  tenellus  u  will  see  photos  of  it  on  google  images...  Lovely  tank  buddy.  I  also  think  that  if  u  find  some  cyperus  helferi  for  background,  it  will  take  things  to  the  next  level.  But  is  that  cyperus  only  or  vallsneria  in  the  back?  It  should  be  more  lush....

 Thanx  Romi  and  Thuds.

Infact  I  am  planning  for  HC  .  Though  cyperus  helferi  would  be  bit  tough  to  find  in  Mumbai.  I  will  check  either  at  Nautilus  or  Utekar's.

 Lovely  planted  tank  Very Happy

Keep  going  and  fine  tuning  it.  Trial  and  error  is  the  name  of  the  game  for  the  type  of  tank  you  have  and  you  are  doing  it  well.

Only......do  not  do  anything  drastic.  Concentrate  on  growing  the  plants  and  the  algae  will  vanish.

 Regards,
 Nayak.
