My  tank  cover  dimensions  are  38x15x5  .  It  has  two  openings  one  on  the  front  side  and  other  from  above  .  Can  I  place  a  70  watt  metal  halide  in  this  hood  .  I  already  have  two  inhost  fans  .

Just  a  mild  water  circulation  -  we  don't  need  a  spray  I  think  a  turkey  blaster  is  good  enough  or  as  tigger  suggested  the  smallest  size  of  a  powerhead!

I  think  the  5"  of  height  is  just  not  enough  for  a  MH  -  you  might  heat  up  the  water  esp.  in  summers  -  you  can  however  cutout  the  canopy  and  place  the  MH  a  bit  higher  say  about  7"  -  8"  high

Sorry  but,  I've  not  come  across  a  12  K  output  in  a  18w  tube  esp.  from  philips  -  please  elaborate  on  this  as  this  can  be  good  news  to  reef-keepers!

What  do  u  mean  by  CRI  (term  related  to  lights  used  for  reef  aquariums).
Does  anyone  have  an  idea  about  it  .

Is  there  any  light  available  above  12k  in  pls  or  cfls  .
Can  any  other  lighting  system  replicate  a  metal  halide  .

Colour  Rendering  Index  is  a  measure  of  the  ability  of  a  light  source  to  reproduce  the  colors  of  various  objects  being  lit  by  the  source. The  best  possible  rendition  of  colors  is  specified  by  a  CRI  of  one  hundred,  while  the  very  poorest  rendition  is  specified  by  a  CRI  of  zero.
On  the  other  hand  this  might  give  you  an  idea  of  colour  temperature.

Metal  halides  are  top  of  the  line  for  providing  light;  however  you  can  use  other  types  for  various  situations/conditions/tanks.
