Sibesh  i  too  got  new  severums  frm  my  LFS  just  a  coupla  days  back,  one  pair  of  albino  and  nothr  pair  of  green  .Genreally  the  LFS  guys  dont  have  the  heater  and  so  the  severums  at  their  place  carry  all  sorts  of  diseases  .  Even  after  carefull  selection  of  my  fish  one  died  today  ..one  of  my  greens    Sad    it  had  a  small  white  scar  kind  of  a  thing  as  though  it  was  hit  ,  and  2day  when  i  obsereved  the  dead  fish  it  had  two  hugh  markings  on  both  sides  of  the  body  and  at  the  end  of  the  front  fins  it  was  all  red.....
Donno  what  to  do  now.....  should  i  quarentine  all  the  remaining  once  (  my  quarentine  tank  broke  into  piecec  so  left  with  some  buckets)???.......or  wait  till  i  see  similar  symptoms  on  other  fish  as  well????

and  i  am  not  a  newbie  nor  the  tank  is  new.......  just  that  i  have  given  away  my  previouse  fish  because  i  wanted  to  have  a  planted  tank.......so  conditioned  the  tank  for  two  weeks  before  i  introduced  any  fish.....and  the  fish  were  also  intorduced  one  after  the  othr,  no  hurry.

it  seems  all  the  fish  here  are  having  some  kind  of  becteria  infection.  3  of  my  severum  died  not  because  of  white  spot  but  some  kind  of  fungus  and  all  had  white  coating  on  there  body.  It  seems  you  also  had  similar  situation.
Don't  waste  time  ,put  them  in  bucket  and  treat  with  KMNO4.  It  may  save  them.  i  am  sure  only  salt  and  M.Blue  will  not  work  fast  enough.
Although  I  just  used  M.blue  and  rocksalt  in  mycase,    1  severum  suvived  and  now  healthy  ,growing  fast.
Now  I  decided  to  quarantine  each  and  every  fish  with  KMNO4  to  get  rid  of  external  parasite.

 Sibesh
PS:  Did  you  get  your  fish  from  Rezimental  bazar  near  S'bad  station  ?

kmnO4  OR  POTASSIUM  PERMAGNATE  is  a  very  deadly  antioxidant.
I  don't  use  it  for  fishes, only  live  feed  is  subjected  to  his  treatment.
 It  removes  oxygen  very  fast.
The  casualties  in  your  tanks  is  because  of  uncycled  tanks.  Let  your  tanks  complete  their  cycle  and  your  fishes  will  not  die.
Whenever  you  buy  new  fish  just  keep  it  seprate  in  a  tank  or  even  a  bucket  for  atleast  3  days.  If  the  fish  appears  normal  you  can  tranfer  it  your  main  tank.  Only  if  the  fish  shows  any  signs  of  disease  then  treat  it.
Ich  infection  cannot  be  treated  at  the  stage  when  it  is  still  on  the  body  of  the  fish.  The  parasite  is  killed  when  it  leaves  body  of  fish  and  swims  free  in  the  tank.  it  is  at  this  stage  that  methylene  blue  etc.  can  kill  it.
When  temp  is  increased  the  parasite  multplies  very  quickly  and  becomes  free  swimming.
Thus  increase  in  temp,  alongwith  salt  &  methylene  blue  can  cure  itch.
As  suggested  earlier  whole  tank  has  to  be  treated.
Many  times  it  is  advised  that  one  week  of  treatment  os  required  to  completly  elimnate  all  signs  of  ich.
Meth  blue  gets  inffective  in  strong  lights,  kindly  shut  of  the  lights.  It  will  also  make  your  fish  feel  safe.
You  can  completly  cure  ick  by  methods  given  above.  Maintain  some  salt  in  the  tank.

i  have  been  to  a  coupla  LFS  and  saw  the  conditions  of  the  severums.....  many  had  white  spots    ,  and  many  looked  very  dull  .  I  am  assuming  this  is  because  of  the  sudden  weather  change  in  hyderabad  ,  its  become  chilly  from  past  some  days  now  and  the  LFS  guys  dont  put  up  heaters  for  eevry  tank  they  have  i  am  assuming  that  might  be  the  reason  for  ill  severums  in  hyderabad.

I  don't  think  that  the  temp.  fall  can  affect  only  severums  -  I'm  sure  the  LFS  will  be  keeping  a  lot  more  fish  and  if  all  or  most  of  them  are  infected  -  take  your  custom  elsewhere!

Well,  any  fish  may  it  be  'cold  water'/'tropical'/'marine'/'brakish'  etc  do  get  stressed  due  to  a  sudden  change  in  the  water  temp.  So  if  the  severums  are  the  only  fish  affected  I  guess  it  is  not  the  weather  -  just  dirty  or  unhygenic  conditions  of  the  stocking  facility!
